Australia quarantine question

According to the news the Victorian government is planning on building a dedicated quarantine center. If you had to guess, do you think they would charge for this like a hotel stay? (As I type this, I am already thinking yes...)

The irony here is that Melbourne used to have the [B]Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital[/B], which operated from 1904 to its closure in 1996. I went there as a pre-school child with diphtheria and then in 1992 coming back from Africa with Malaria with a particularly virulent strain. It was quickly recognized and treated. Away from the hospital many general practitioners were not all that knowledgeable about different types of malaria or esoteric features of other infectious diseases. It struck me when the closure was announced that it was a rather stupid exercise to shut down this hospital which had earned an international reputation for expertise. Moreover it was situated in large grounds which could readily have been developed to cater for extra case numbers created by Covid. Ahh yes, but think of the savings in closing a hospital.

It will be the same as Howard springs in the NT, Queensland is trying to do the same with one of there mine camps. I wish they would do something soon I am sick of been stuck in Melbourne.

So you have to pay to stay in Howard Springs? Most of my family are in Melbourne and I have started thinking about going back there at some point. I would prefer to stay in Bali, but I worry about my kid's education. I am over homeschooling and online classes.

normally you get the bill 2-3 months after you leave quarantine, then you can pay it off . I think you should stay in Bali :)

This system is causing so many of us grief, I've been here since November and a few things I'd love to go back to Australia and do. With Perth as my destination, there is only 1 direct flight a week from Jakarta or some ridiculous route like DPS>JKT>SNG>BRIS>PER (there are variations like Darwin/Syndey also), but that is a 50 juta the 50 juta is better spent here, but they are booked out for months and months in advance. Just thought I'd throw that up if anyone is thinking of returning via WA you actually need to action it 3 months before you want to go or be prepared to pay top dollar. Also if you see flights on skyscanner, check https://www.flightradar24.com/ to make sure the flight has actually been flying there is many that show up, like I found some weird route over Malaysia with Malindo air but it hasn't flown in 5 months. Really didn't think they'd drag it out this long. Interested to hear your stories. Kind of disappointing the Aussie airlines just totally gave up on the routes too.

It's looking like there is more evidence that the virus came from the Wuhan lab, where they were taking already deadly viruses and seeing how much more contagious they could make them. So many people were worried about climate change and global warming, while labs in China (and probably many other places around the world) were experimenting with highly contagious, lethal viruses.

I can only speak for Australia as that is the country with my work rights, aka the one I'm bouncing back and forth from. 1/2 the problem is the general public, even some of my friends, agree with these heavy restrictions on our freedoms because of the pandemic. Personally I think they are doing crazy amounts of damage to the economy, for a handful of cases, sky seems to be the only media outlet with that point of view the others channels 10,9,7 and abc are basically driving the FUD no doubt enjoying the views all the fear is getting them. When I finally do get back, I've no choice but to stay put as long as a year if this continues, which is pretty sad, but you're kind of stupid at these prices to go back and forth every few months.

Haven't seen my kids in 18 months. Couldn't travel for my Mum's funeral or my brother's wedding. Would vote for any politician who had the guts to offer an election pledge to make lockdowns illegal in perpetuity. We can make our own decisions thank you very much. Just give us the information and then STFU.

Can certainly understand your predicament and sympathize, although my fleeing worked out in April to the US. It is traumatic to be stuck and not able to get to your home country. If there are no flights coming in there are few ways to get out, and feel myself fortunate to get where I am with access to decent health care including quality vaccine (now over with). The thing bugging me now is why all the affluent nations don’t make some points in SE Asia by providing more quality vaccines. The US donated but 7 million vaccine shots to all of SE Asia. Why can’t the western nations that enjoy Bali so don’t contribute to Bali when it faces this need is a thoughtless blunder, and if anyone of you have any bright ideas we as forum members could pursue please speak up.

Good you got to what I presume is your native USA? USA and EU aren't as tight as Australia though. I have a flight in September I've got really mixed feelings about taking as I know I might not be back up to a year but I'll probably take it as Australia has family, friends all my tax stuff and I can go and get a job there, but of course I prefer life here in Bali by far. Re your comments on donations, unfortunately I suspect it has at least some degree to do with the corruption. I have had many great business ideas and it always comes back to you need to bring the banjar a heap of money and you can do whatever the fuck you want. That's enough to press me to find western money to bring to Indonesia, which is depressing in itself. As I discussed with another member over dinner last night, if I miss that flight I'm screwed for as long as six months. I don't have a pension or anything like that to transfer still working age.

If there's one thing in this pandemic that I've learned it's that it has nothing at all to do with viruses, bats, pangolin, Wuhan, social distancing, pandemics or any of the many, many variations of the present situation we ALL find ourselves in: It"s simply that we all have an absolutely abysmal ability to choose people to lead us, and that's not by a long shot just Australians. Apart from Sweden, who appear to have been lucky, there is not one single "leader" ANYWHERE that has earned that name by guiding us out of the maze of dangers and possibilities that this event has caused. In a perfect world I would hope that all the "opinions", "guidance", "pronunciations" that every asshole has give from himself over the last 15 months would be publicized and weighed for wanting on the scale of public opinion and against the numbers of their citizens that have DIED because of this "leader's" ignorance. There should be consequences.
