Opportunities for European Investors in Domestic Agriculture

Antara News is reporting that Heru Tri Widarto, Indonesia’s acting director general of plantations at the Ministry of Agriculture, has invited entrepreneurs and investors from European countries to develop the potential of the country’s agriculture sector, saying Indonesia has abundant natural resources, especially in plantations, such as palm oil, rubber, coffee, spices, and cocoa.

Speaking during the EU-Indonesia Agribusiness Forum in Jakarta on Monday (28/10/24,) Widarto said that by implementing modern agricultural technology from Europe, Indonesia can increase the productivity, quality, and added value of these commodities.

“Indonesia, with its abundant resources, strategic location, and commitment to sustainable agriculture, offers fertile ground for such collaboration,” he said, adding that the increasing demand of the Indonesian people for high-quality dairy and beef products has also opened up great opportunities for companies from the EU to invest in the livestock sector in the country.

According to Antara News, modern breeding, production, and processing technology from European countries is expected to help meet the demand of the Indonesian people for beef and milk while improving the quality of livestock products in the country.

In addition, the EU is considered to have a long track record and deep expertise in the field of dairy and beef farming. Widarto said that this expertise can be utilized to produce safe and high-quality food products that can meet the nutritional needs of the community while encouraging rural development and economic growth.

“To EU entrepreneurs and investors, I encourage you to consider the promising landscape in Indonesia. Your innovation, knowledge, and sustainable practices are essential to building a resilient agricultural system that will benefit both parties,” he said.

The Ministry of Agriculture is currently focusing on efforts to realize national food security, including identifying and implementing strategies to change the agricultural system so that it can provide sustainable, nutritious, and affordable food for all Indonesian people, says Antara News.

Widarto expressed the hope that the business forum can explore potential investment opportunities in the food sector. “By partnering with Indonesian stakeholders, we can open new supply chains, increase productivity, market access, and meet the growing needs of global consumers,” he added.
