BPS: Foreign Tourists Almost Back to Pre-pandemic Level

Tempo are reporting that according to Acting Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Amalia Adaninggar Widyasanti, speaking at a press conference on Monday (06/11/23) “the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia continues to increase and is close to the pre-pandemic level,” adding the rise of the tourism sector in Q3/ 2023 has helped to support Indonesia’s economic growth.

Amalia explained that the number of domestic tourists increased by 13.35-percent year-on-year in Q3/ 2023, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 64.87-percent year-on-year.

The rise in tourist visits was in line with the surge in passenger numbers in all modes of transportation, say Tempo, adding that Amalia said that in the third quarter of 2023, the number of passengers in rail transport increased by 26.71-percent year-on-year, sea transport by 11.12-percent year-on-year, and air transport by 29.18-percent year-on-year.

Apart from the number of tourist visits and passengers of transportation, Amalia said the Indonesian economy was also supported by the holding of national and international events, especially those related to the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.
