Speaking at the APEC CEO Summit in Lima, Peru on Thursday (14/11/24,) President Prabowo Subianto signaled Indonesia’s readiness to welcome more businesses and a strong commitment to safeguarding all investments, according to reporting from Antara News.
“I am determined to protect all investments, to provide favorable economic conditions, and to be involved in major economic organizations of the world,” Subianto said in his speech, as monitored by a video uploaded to the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, underscoring the crucial role of the private sector in supporting Indonesia’s economy.
The President said that legal certainty is one of the aspects that are direly needed by private businesses, noting that private businesses need a favorable economic climate, political and security stability, as well as favorable incentives, say Antara News.
“This (is what) we are addressing. We have liberalized our laws,” he said.
Prabowo stated that Indonesia has opened opportunities for companies in the health sector, foreign hospitals, and foreign universities to operate in Indonesia, adding that Indonesia has and will create more special economic zones (SEZs) to encourage the entry of modern and leading-edge technology into the country.
“We are very bullish on our maritime industry, fisheries. Three-quarters of our national territory is water. We have tremendous potential for, let us say, well-planned fishery program, aquaculture, and a lot of processing industries,” he said.
Antara News says he assessed that the APEC summit presents an opportunity for Indonesia to bolster ties and invite collaboration with international business leaders. He expressed hope that the summit would benefit all parties.
“Peace comes from understanding. Understanding comes from engagement and negotiation. Hence, I am very happy to attend this APEC summit to renew contacts, to introduce myself, to introduce my country, and to invite cooperation between all of you,” he said.
