Aquabike Jetski World Championship Promotes Lake Toba Tourism

Antara News are reporting that the 2023 Aquabike Jetski World Championship from November 22 to 26 will be held in four regions surrounding Lake Toba, (Karo, Dairi, Samosir, and Toba,) and is expected to positively contribute to local tourism and promote the destination internationally.

The event is the result of collaboration between InJourney, Indonesia’s state tourism holding company, and the local governments. InJourney’s Director of Marketing and Tourism Program, Maya Watono, said that “each district has prepared various side events to support the success of the Aquabike Jetski World Championship 2023.”

The Aquabike Jetski World Championship will be the 2nd international water sports event to be held at Lake Toba this year, say Antara News, adding that in February, InJourney held the F1 Powerboat or Formula 1 Motor Boat Racing (F1H2O.)

The holding of two international water sports championships is expected to promote Lake Toba as one of the global water sports tourism destinations and is in line with the government’s designation of Lake Toba as a super-priority tourism destination, say Antara News.

Lake Toba is part of the Toba Caldera and is recognized as a global geopark by UNESCO.

By presenting the Aquabike Jetski World Championship, InJourney expects that Lake Toba would become Indonesia’s mainstay water sports tourism site.

Antara News say that Watono said “InJourney will continue to present various special events on Lake Toba, so that the number of tourist visits in the region can increase and realize the target of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia and the economic benefits of more than IDR 1.7-trillion.”

Samosir District Head Vandiko T. Gultom believes that the championship will bolster the local economy, as a large number of spectators will come from within and outside the country.

“This event is expected to have a positive impact, including on Samosir’s economy,” he remarked.
