The New Yorker has suspended reporter Jeffrey Toobin for masturbating on a Zoom video chat between members of the New Yorker and WNYC radio last week. Toobin says he did not realize his video was on.

“I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers,” Toobin told Motherboard.

“I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video,” he added.

Two people who were on the call told VICE separately that the call was an election simulation featuring many of the New Yorker's biggest stars: Jane Mayer was playing establishment Republicans; Evan Osnos was Joe Biden, Jelani Cobb was establishment Democrats, Masha Gessen played Donald Trump, Andrew Marantz was the far right, Sue Halpern was left wing democrats, Dexter Filkins was the military, and Jeffrey Toobin playing the courts. There were also a handful of other producers on the call from the New Yorker and WNYC.

Both people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely, noted that it was unclear how much each person saw, but both said that they saw Toobin jerking off. The two sources described a juncture in the election simulation when there was a strategy session, and the Democrats and Republicans went into their respective break out rooms for about 10 minutes. At this point, they said, it seemed like Toobin was on a second video call. The sources said that when the groups returned from their break out rooms, Toobin lowered the camera. The people on the call said they could see Toobin touching his penis. Toobin then left the call. Moments later, he called back in, seemingly unaware of what his colleagues had been able to see, and the simulation continued.

What a week it's been for the American left. First, the Democratic Presidential candidate's son is caught in a massive scandal involving shady Ukrainian business deals, bribes, corruption, drugs, and child porn and now Toobin (a high ranking officer at the fake news HQ CNN) exposes himself "by accident."

It's almost like they deliberately don't care...oh wait.....they don't and never have ;)

He's a dummy too! I don't have to be a Trump supporter to know the Democrats are fully blown scam artists and the whole system is rigged. To hell with both parties

This is straight out of the QAnon playbook...and also totally unproven like all their other conspiracy theories.

Well, those pictures of Hunter Biden smoking drugs seem pretty blatant to me but time will tell if the rest comes out. And calling something a "conspiracy" is a great way to just negate any possible theory that goes against party lines. Classic old communist technique.

"Truth is stranger than fiction" as they say.

Think about all the "conspiracy theories" people laughed about for years that we now know as factual evidence.

- The government stealing dead bodies for radioactive testing after Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs (Project Sunshine).

- The government testing LSD on patients in the 50s and 60s (MK-Ultra)

- The government spying on its citizens through data collection and social media (now a proven fact).

... the list goes on and on. You can find out the full details of the aforementioned events anywhere online with reputable sources. The jury is still not out about the Hunter Biden incident but I've seen enough evidence to make my own personal opinion (which is the great part about opinions). Everyone is entitled to have one.

My opinion is the government doesn't give two shits about any of us and if you think Biden, Trump, etc. is any different than you're insane. They want to keep us alive just long enough to pay taxes and keep this well-oiled machine we call the economy running.

Meanwhile, they're raking in the cash, somehow making millions on their "humble civil servant salaries" and laughing at us along the way.

End rant :)

OK, fair enough. Let's connect the dots, and let the readers decide....

An unknown person supposedly drops off an Apple macbook laptop for repair at a computer shop in the state of Delaware. Like most people (???), the person never picks it up, so the shop owner just happens to contact Steve Bannon, one of Donald Trump's former campaign managers, and then gives the laptop to Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal lawyer and all around dirty trickster, who claims without substantiation that the laptop belongs to Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's son. The laptop purportedly contains confidential business emails as well as a photograph of Hunter Biden allegedly smoking crack (which is something most people would keep on their laptop, right?). And yes, it's the same Hunter Biden who was a source of Trump's impeachment by the House of Representatives when Trump was caught trying to blackmail the Ukraine government by withholding US aid unless they provided dirt on the Bidens (real or fake, it didn't matter), and in particular on Hunter Biden who was once a director of a Ukrainian company.

A couple of weeks before the Presidential election, with Giuliani's assistance, the laptop 'story' is broken by a supermarket-type tabloid newspaper called the New York Post, but the story author is so doubtful of its veracity that he asks his name not to be on the byline. Who, you might ask, owns the New York Post? Why that would be Rupert Murdoch, a big Trump supporter, who also 'coincidentally' owns Fox News, Trump's personal propaganda channel and informal advisor to his policies. And, in the meantime, the self-proclaimed very stable genius Trump has threatened to fire both his hand picked FBI Director and his Attorney General because they have not charged his political opponent, Joe Biden, with any crimes. Exactly what poor Joe has to do with the laptop saga is still a mystery... but apparently that's beside the point.

Can anyone else see how absolutely full of crap this whole charade is? It's amateurish to the point of being laughable.

You got a few key points wrong about the story.

1. The laptop repair guy did not call Steve Bannon first. He saw a "Biden foundation" sticker on the laptop first and given the contents of the laptop, he alerted the federal authorities.

2. before calling the feds, he first called Robert Costello, a well-known lawyer in the area who is also Giuliani's lawyer. That is when Bannon started getting involved. I will admit, it's strange the laptop owner called Costello before just calling the feds. But who knows, he easily could have been a Trump supporter and saw this as an opportunity.

3. You say it's absurd that there are videos of Biden smoking crack on a laptop? Considering my friend used to post videos of himself shooting up heroin on Instagram and Facebook, I really don't think it's that weird for a drug addict to make videos while they are high and save them for later use. People are into some very weird shit and drugs only magnify that.

Again, I agree with you about the New York Post being a complete dog shit news source. Rupert Murdoch is a piece of shit and he is as biased as they come. That being said, I am not ready to dismiss this story 100% until all the facts come out and I get some clear evidence that it didn't happen.

I saw the photos and saw the emails. Now, the emails could be fake but the photos, that's 100% Hunter Biden. If Joe can't even keep his own son out of drugs and out of trouble, then how exactly is he going to run a country effectively?

Another VERY BIG question I have is if this is such a wild and crazy conspiracy theory, it should be very easy for Joe Biden to dispel. However, it's been quite some time and Joe hasn't said anything productive about it and refuses to answer the important question. Why is that? Joe's team has been silent on this matter and it's very strange.

Lastly, what's the FBI's involvement in this? Why did they hold on to the laptop since December 2019 without saying a word? They continue to possess the laptop and just yesterday said "They have nothing to add" to the discussion.

The whole thing seems very fishy to me. If it was such a clear cut conspiracy, then the FBI and Biden should have no trouble at all coming out and proving it's false. Seems like that would be a top priority with the election weeks away...but alas, nothing happened

Did you know it costs about $5000 to revoke your American citizenship? With witless and idiotic shit that's been coming out of that country now for a number of years I'm beginning to consider saving my pennies.

Actually the official fee is 'only' $2,350, so far fewer pennies to save - you're over 50% closer than you thought! :D Seriously, given the tax compliance issues that US citizens living overseas face, the onerous penalties for even innocent non-compliance, as well as the witless and idiotic shit we read about and hear everyday, it's not a bad idea to give up US citizenship, especially if you have another so-called Tier A passport (EU country, Aus, NZ, Canada, Singapore, UK etc.)

Disproving a spurious allegation, ie proving a negative: a) is not always easy to do - after all how to respond to bullshit, by just saying it's bullshit? If someone accuses another of being a pedophile - tell me exactly how you easily prove to all doubters that it's not true? Case in point, some people are still convinced that Barack Obama was born in Kenya!!! In the situation involving the laptop, even if one was able to obtain a copy of the suspect hard drive, how long would it take for an IT forensic specialist to establish that the emails and photographs were fabrications, eg photo shopped, made up etc? At a minimum several weeks, if not months; and b) sucks up valuable oxygen during an election that should be used to discuss genuine issues, and not responding to conspiratorial and evil-intentioned accusations that have nothing to do directly with the candidate himself. As for the FBI, they report to Trump and his guy is the director, so I suspect that there really is much ado about nothing or they would have acted.

Well, in my opinion, this IS a genuine issue that the public demands an answer to. If the next potential president is somehow involved with shady deals in Ukraine and China, I as an American citizen would definitely want to know about it. After all, the Democrats spent years and millions of American taxpayer money to investigate Trump on the whole "Russian collusion scandal" and came up empty. Would you say that was a giant waste of time or was it worth looking into?

The FBI has had the laptop since December 2019. They should have been able to prove if it is false information by now.

As for the FBI being on team Trump, I'm not so sure on that. They've historically been fighting each other for the past four years and even the new director is expected to get fired soon after the election. I wouldn't call them friends at all.

Last night, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security stated they will investigate Hunter Biden's business parter Tony Bobulinski who has confirmed the emails highlighted in the New York Post article were true. Newsweek just reported it 8 hours ago.

We'll see how it all plays out but I for one am certainly skeptical of the Biden family and until some hard evidence comes out proving this whole investigation is a sham and Biden is innocent, I'm not taking his side.

Well in that case, one should want to know about the Trump family's business dealings and your president's massive debts to banks, including foreign financial institutions. Debts that will come due in the next couple years. His tax returns. His seemingly shady international dealings in countries like China, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other 'upstanding' places, and their potential influence on administration foreign policy. His possible tax evasion, obstruction of justice (already established by Bob Mueller), wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering etc... But I forgot, after firing Jim Comey and Jeff Sessions, he now totally controls the justice department and FBI, so Americans should just let it go, right? I mean, he'd never lie about something important, would he?

As Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's minister of propaganda once stated, "if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it". That's life in Trump world, as supported by Rupert Murdoch and his media empire. Hopefully for the rest us, America's experiment in 'bat shit crazy' will soon be over.

Well, this is exactly what's wrong with America at the moment and this is exactly what the evil powers that be want out of us. They want the left and right arguing to the point of no return. This is how most debates go in the states these days. Neither side will budge.

You have the left saying things like " "if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it". and then you have the right saying the exact same thing.

Leftists think Fox News and company is all just a bunch of fake news from corrupt people and the right thinks CNN and company is all just a bunch of fake news that's lying out of their ass also

Each side thinks they are on the right while the other side is being lied to. No matter how many factual articles one pulls up, the other side can just as easily pull up an article that challenges it.

If you ask me, there is no logical way out of this mess than a civil war. The two sides will never see eye to eye. Either fight it out or divide the country up into different, self-governing regions to the liberals can get the communist utopia they've always dreamed of while the right can get their ignorant, bigoted, rigged-wall street "democracy" they want.

USA is spiraling into self-destruction and there's no way out of it. Glad I got out of that hell hole while I had the chance.

The real fun will start in just a couple of years when every moderately able IT guy can "deep fake" video, audio and pictures with cheap, off-the-shelf software to the level of perfection that no one will be able to see.

Then no one will be able to believe anything unless he's personally seen or heard it himself.

The biggest problem then won't be that we are all programmed to believe falsehoods but rather we all completely turn off as it being "no point anyway".

Then evil has won.
