Eyeworks to put spotlight on Bali

One of Australia's most popular tourist destinations, Bali, will be laid bare in a new factual reality series from the production company Eyeworks Australia. The Seven Network has commissioned a new series, What Really Happens in Bali, which promises to ''leave nothing to the imagination.'' The series will go inside Bali's busiest international emergency rooms at BIMC and Sanglah Hospitals, as well as following tourists and holidaymakers, including ''schoolies experiencing their first taste of freedom, detoxing celebrities [and] expats with new business ventures.''

Indonesia
Having lived and worked in Indonesia and Thailand, Thailand has the edge for dealing with immigration and employment matters so I tend to agree with the statement 'Bali eats you up and spits you out' as far as that is concerned, despite the fact I was employing over 30 Indonesians through my company back in 1999 every obstacle imaginable...and a few more besides ...were produced or invented on the spot preventing us getting on with our projects.

In Thailand, Songkhla to be precise, I employed 75 Thais, 12 Indonesians, 5 Brit/Oz personnel. On arrival, not only were all the team given three month temporary work permits to allow the job to get started, but someone from the local labour office came down to site FOC and made sure my status as a 'temporary employer' was valid and that all of the Thai workforce understood the contract we were offering.
They could not have been more helpful and did NOT ask for 'expenses'

On the plus side though, I will say that Indonesian ladies tend to be less mercenary overall than their sisters in Thailand. Many many Farangs discover that the girl of their dreams puts family first, family second, family third, Thai husband next, Thai boyfriend after that ... then waayyyyyy down the list YOU...

"An Australian dies every 9 days in Bali". Great headline!!! Duh!! I think I would be pretty safe in assuring the viewers that the majority of the Australians who die in Bali do so because they are OLD!!!!! However, if it stops a heap of narrow-minded bogans from arriving in Denpasar then I'm all for it!! Let's hope it's only the first episode of a long season!

JUST MORE BALI BASHING FROM 7

Obviously Willisee's camera crew was bored waiting around for the non-existent Corby interview so decided to beat up another Bali "story" instead.

I wrote a comment on MyBaliGuide.com in July last year in response to a similar beat up on Bali called "Bali - The Dark Side" which if memory serves me correctly was also aired by the 7 Network who for whatever reason are always seen to be Bashing Bali.

The article appropriately titled " BALI : THE SAFEST PLACE FOR AUSSIES TO HOLIDAY" used 2012 data from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showing Bali as one of the safest places per capita for Aussies to holiday abroad.

In 2012 Bali had a death rate of 1 in every 20,435 Aussie tourists, with a total of 39 deaths recorded for almost 800,000 visitors, with the majority of those deaths recorded as "natural causes" of elderly tourists and ex-pats (illness accounted for 25 per cent of deaths followed by natural deaths (22 per cent)......

But what about Thailand, Channel 7 ?

Thailand recorded 111 Aussie deaths in 2012 almost 3 times the number in Bali and for 200,000 less visitors. Greece was the "unsafest" place for Aussies to holiday with a 1 in 1633 chance of kicking the bucket there, but does that rate a program on Channel 7......OH NO!!!.

BALI : THE SAFEST PLACE FOR AUSSIES TO HOLIDAY
Here are the top 10 countries in order of most Aussie deaths on holidays per visitors : Greece 1/1633, Germany 1/1853, Philippines 1/2808, Vietnam 1/5351, Thailand 1/5603, Hong Kong 1/5725, China 1/10026, USA 1/16121, UK 1/17462, and Bali with a 1/20435 chance of Aussies dying on the island, rounds out the top 10 with Bali being the safest of the 10 for Aussies to holiday abroad.

Get off Bali's back Channel 7 and chase a REAL story for a change.
