Can anyone advise if you can only rent a villa for the same period as your visa. I am planning to come to Bali on a social visa and hoping to stay for 1 year in total.

There is no such limit. Your rental agreement is between you and the owner, and if you rent it for 12 months and only have a visa for 6 months, that's your problem - he doesn't worry. If you cannot get here in the second 6 months, he would probably rent it to others -you might think this is not right, but it seems to be what they do.

I thought you can't enter a rental agreement on a Social visa?

You have to get a Indo signature

Is this right??

Even if you are on a VOA you can do a rent agreement, the owner and notary will never ask anything about your stay permit.
Just like what ronb posted, you're stay permit is your own responsibility
