Bali could soon be home to the biggest theme park in Southeast Asia, following a reported agreement between Paramount Pictures and an Indonesian company to start developments in Jembrana regency.

In a press release issued by the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Speaker Bambang Soesatyo said that the proposed development will help boost Bali’s post-pandemic economy.

“The development of Paramount theme park will strengthen Bali’s position as a recreational and entertainment hub for world citizens,” Bambang, who’s popularly known as Bamsoet, said.

PT Kios Ria Kreasi and Paramount Pictures signed the agreement last Thursday in Los Angeles, the event of which was broadcasted and virtually attended by Indonesian officials such as Bamsoet, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, and Bali Governor Wayan Koster.

The theme park will be located in Pekutatan, Jembrana and is slated for a soft launch in 2025, the statement said. According to Bamsoet, the theme park is expected to attract as many as five million visitors annually.

This theme park project is now being widely reported by local media outlets, and though Paramount Pictures do have a Paramount Parks & Resorts division, they have yet to release a statement regarding this Indonesian project at the time of publication. In the US, Paramount amusement parks were once a popular chain of movie-themed attractions. Though the parks themselves are still operating in different parts of the country, they are no longer under the Paramount name.
