I just heard of another nominee scam which I thought I would share.
Basically, the nominee created a fake power of attorney, made in the country the foreign owner was from. The documents looked real enough to the notary as they were made or looked to be made from a law firm and had official stamps on them. Since they were made overseas, it was the first time for the notary to see these kinds of documents, so they didn't have anything to compare them to.
The nominee also created a fake email account to communicate with the notary, pretending to be the foreign owner. The property was then sold, to another buyer, without the foreign owner being aware.
The case is in the courts now and will be interested to see the result.
