Intere
I have a friend who is/was married to a local girl and that didn't work out (surprise!!!) but the young son he has from the marriage he also wanted to take back to Oz with him permanently away from the mother.
We discussed it over beers (as usual) and I didn't wax diplomatic (as usual) and pointed out that his small brown son would just be another "darky" over there but here was half bule with some status from that not to mention more money. My friend eventually agreed and his son is very happy here and for a local good sized - he'd just be small and brown in Oz and that's not an advantage IMHO.
Hope I'm wrong mate.
Interesting view, even I don't agree with it.
I have 3 kids with my ex Thai wife (I worked 10 y over there in the 90's).
We moved back to France in 99 and stayed there 9 years. Kids went to school, never had a problem. Note that we always educated them as French, and they all have French names.
Note also they have all very light skin, but clearly mixed Asian features.
In fact they had more problems when in 2008 we moved back to Thailand, at that time they were 13, 9 and 8 y old.
Nowadays the eldest son (27) has moved back to France and joined the army.
Daugther (22) is running a on line food business in BKK
Son #2 (23) is at University in Thailand studying computer science.
They are all perfectly at ease with both cultures (and know how to play them...), speak / write perfect French, English and Thai. Definitively and advantage.
Funny thing, during our stay in France, we lived 1 year in Martinique (French Carribeans) and except for the weather and the water temperature, they all (included the Mom) hated the place.
Budhism and rasta culture obviously don't mix well...
A bit same for me, mainly because of the racism by the locals, even they being French, and a French territory.
Just my personal experience, it can work. And as mentionned, education wise when young, kids sure are better of in the West, avoiding all the Asian and religious brainwashining.
