I think that the Netflix ‘war’ is still going on (for people outside of the US).
Netflix and Indihome were trying to come to an agreement regarding what Netflix Indonesia could stream here quite a while back (based on Telkom/Indonesia’s definition of acceptable content – like ‘pornographic’ content). I don’t know if they’ve agreed to anything yet, maybe ‘soon’.
“No one can figure out how to consistently unblock Netflix outside of the US.”

Netflix has been targeting various VPNs and DNS proxies for a long time to try and stop them accessing its content.
So, there is no definitive answer to what works with ‘unblocking’. Some VPNs ‘work’, for a while, until they don’t.

Things like ‘Smart DNS’ and VPNs don’t usually work well together. Kind of a either/or situation, with no long term guarantee of success. Some companies, like Express VPN claim their VPN works. Maybe, but for how long?

If Biznet can do something that Indihome can’t, I’d like to know what that is.

On the other hand, I don’t need or use Netflix so it doesn’t matter to me.
If someone has paid subscription for Netflix, (like in Australia), I’m willing to give it a try using my VPN service to see what happens.
Send me a PM if you’re interested.

:)

Hulu, on the other hand, works a treat in Asia using a VPN.

I'm out at the moment but can try Telkomsel which does the same blocking as Telkom. It's blocked. Then I VPN to Singapore. It connects to netflix.com/sg/ and wants me to sign up. Hope that helps.

Telkom created their own version of Netflix not much longer after Netfix was available in Indonesia. It's called iflix, but probably more for Indonesian audiences. I think that's the real reason for blocking Netflix.

Hi JohnnyCool.
We have touched on this subject before . I am at present using a SIM card wireless router and do have a netflix account in Oz which I use occasionally when through the netflix app on my samsung smart tv .I took your advice and downloaded Ipvanish and worked well at a venue in Candidasa but of course not quick enough in Jasri .

My problem is that i want a faster more reliable internet at home but don't want the add on cable tv as can use netflix and stream news. Biznet would suit but not available in Jasri and am worried that if I go for Indihome they will block Netflix and I will have all those cable channels i dont want for an xtra $30 a month .

Indihome is pretty much your best option for fast reliable AND affordable Internet. Regard the tv channels as a free add on. If you can figure out a VPN solution that will let you get a Netflix service - it will work well on Indihome.

Thanks Ron
Yep, think it's coming to that conclusion.

Like Ron, I think Indihome is your best bet, for the price, provided that you can get it in Jasri.
It's currently Rp 475,000/month in Sanur for 10 Mbps.
If IPVanish worked for you before, it could still be OK. Unless Netflix is blocking some servers that IPVanish has.
Good luck.

Hi JohnnyCool
Yep indihome available as next door has it . Neighbor across the road said she had Biznet but apparently not.
Was just going to be easier with my N/F account but then again think indihome has oz+ but just want a no hassle internet connection.
Thanks for everyone's help :)

You should be OK then, as far as a ‘no hassle’ internet connection goes.
Then again, some people have different experiences. I’m not sure why, exactly.

For example. I was just talking to a friend of mine in a bar who has Indihome in his brand new house.
He reckons his download speed is around 3Mbps. Huh? Then he went on to tell me that he originally signed up for only the internet connection. Now he wants to ‘upgrade’ the Usee TV bit plus the digital phone service.

I had my old android tablet with me, connected to the bar’s 10 Mbps Indihome service and ran a couple of speed tests.
They all came up with 10+ Mbps. So, I don’t know what he’s done or not done to get his results.

I went a step further and started up my IPVanish VPN client (on the tablet), chose a server in Melbourne, ran a test again and it came up around 9 Mbps. Then started up ABC’s i-View, chose a program (it was an episode of Gruen), and it worked fine without any buffering.

Indihome does have Oz + TV. It usually works fine but two things I’ve noticed lately with it.

1. When started, it can suddenly freeze. (You notice this when somebody talking’s lips are out of sync. Click another channel, go back, and it recovers. Or, go back to the menu, restart the channel and it’s fine.)

2. Some idiots in Jakarta slap on a message that the subtitles are made by them (if, and when they actually work). I’m thinking of complaining to Oz+ about this because it’s useless and annoying.

Have fun.

Hi Johnny
I'm definitely not IT savvy so I hope you can shed some light . If I signed up for indihome with a speed of 20mbps should I be happy with a download speed of 3 ? I know 3 would be ok to stream but i dont get the disparity if you signed for 20 and only get 3 ?

Absolutely NO.
Think of it this way: you sign up to get 20 bottles beer every month, but 17 are always missing. Wouldn’t you complain?

Jasri might be in a ‘peripheral area’, and it could be that the fiber cable is only capable of 10 Mbps (for the moment). I was only offered the faster connections (20, 50, 100) at my place in Sanur a few months ago. Basically, what I’m saying is that 20 Mbps may not be ready yet for your area. If that’s the case, you should definitely not be paying for something you can’t get.

I think that you should be talking to Telkom about this.

Try their dreaded 147 number, answer the dumb questions, get a ‘ticket’, get promised a ‘technician’ who will come and check stuff sometime in the future, hope for the best...you might have to do it several times.

It’s also possible that the modem they’ve supplied you with is faulty, and needs replacing (at their expense).

Another possible scenario is that something on your main computer or things connecting to your network (laptop, smartphone), have been compromised by some malware (and stealing slabs of your bandwidth without your knowledge). Running some complete anti-virus/malware scans might pick these up (of course, you have these and they’re up-to-date?). If not, try an on-line scanner (Eset, Emsisoft, Kaspersky, BitDefender, etc), but remember to temporarily turn off you normal antivirus/malware software first.
Hope this helps.
