Hi All

Apologies if this is not the correct place to post this, however I have exhausted almost all avenues that I have researched or been directed too, and this is one place I have not tried.

So far I have applied for all jobs applicable through the Bali Advertiser, JobStreet and Concord Services (where I had to call them to get a response at all, and finally I have an interview on Tuesday). I have even gone hotel to hotel with my resume. More often than not, I do not get a response back via email to any of the jobs that I have applied for.

I am an executive legal secretary from Australia. So I am hoping for any type of administration role possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Cheers
Liz

Dear Lizkins if falls to me apparently to explain something to you that other way before now should have done:

It is illegal for you to work in Indonesia - being of a legal bent I'm sure this must have been reasonably clear to you at least after the 3rd or 6th turn down. People will simply not hire you as it would be far too costly if they were caught and for you too.

I can only suggest that you find something "online" to tide you over until something comes up.

How about cheese importer from NZ? I'm sure there's a market there/here!

Not 100% true (but 95% maybe). Businesses can seek permission to hire expats for specialist skills like English teacher or chef.

Lizkins...Indonesia does not (generally) permit foreigners to work legally without a work permit. This permit needs to be applied for by the Company who wish to employ you. The Dept. of Labor lists those jobs which foreigners are able to perform. The general idea is to prevent foreigners taking jobs Indonesians are capable of doing. If approved the employer is required to send US$1200/annum to a training fund....so Indonesian students can benefit.

Pity I am flying back to Oz tonight. Would have loved to have tested out your chilli. You are a Yank, right? Well, no offense buddy, but your chilli would be about as weak as your footballers. :)) Feel free to disagree.

Never been very inspired by a bunch of guys kicking a bag full of air around a field - was always much better served (serving?) shagging the fans/players girlfriends that were bored and left alone:)) Feel free to disagree.

No offense taken - I'll save you a bowl if you bring me some cheese.

You are a funny bloke Markit. I'm not Aussie, you should have realised since I can spell and understand grammar - I think. I'm a Scotsman. Next time I am in town I'll look you up.

Take care.

Thank you all for your responses. Well aware of the Kitas, which is now 2,500 USD for a company to sponsor you yearly to stay. I have met a number of expats here working in Bali on the Kitas. However naturally they are in hospitality. Its more work in my field that I am struggling to get. However I now have an interview with a recruiter on Tuesday, so I will see how that goes. I am also trying to work out whether there is someway I could do my job online successfully.

Thanks again

For those foreigners seeking employment or simply to live in Indonesia.....some understanding of terminology might be useful.
The following link to 'Living in Indonesia' is useful in that regard. Visas and Documentation - Information on working documents for expatriates in Indonesia

To summarize..... an ITAS is a Temporary Say Permit and Kitas is the actual card. It is issued for a number of reasons but, in isolation, except for an exception irrelevant to this thread, does not permit employment. It is issued from the Ministry of Immigration.

An IMTA is a work permit, which can be attached to a Kitas if sponsored by a Company located in Indonesia. It is issued from the Ministry of Manpower and US$100/month payable 1 year in advance, and no refund even if employment doesn't last 12 months, is 'sent' to the Ministry for it's 'Skill and Development' fund.

Lizkin mentions US$2500 but I'm not aware if that means the total for the IMTA and/or Kitas....and haven't heard of any changes...perhaps some elaboration....?

For interest...last Saturday, the head of Manpower and Transmigration (Priyono) said his Dept. will intensify the supervision of foreign workers prior to Indonesia joining AEC next year. He says this is to ensure strategic positions in Indonesian Companies are not held by staff from overseas. This edict, imo, is code that all Companies had better secure their foreign employees with correct documentation for the position held.

I enjoyed the Chili Cookoff. The Chilis were all good, 2 were vegetarian, they varied in spicing, the amount of tomato, and sweetness. We did not remain to hear what the judges decided. They asked for comments about your favourite and the photo shows what one of our friends wrote.DSC07585.jpg
