Been going to Bali for years but recently am thinking about leasing a villa and renting it out as a holiday let when we are not there. If we leased a place how would that potentially work? OK I see people advertising them on Flipkey or whatever but can you technically do that legally if you don't live there full time? How do you go about a licence for a pondok wisata? I have a friend who lives there and could potentially manage it for me but what is the full story? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if legally matters if you are here or not. Many people do what you are planning. Where is you villa located? Airbnb is also good for advertising your villa and has a good system for accepting payments. Certainly I think you need someone managing your place while you are away, organizing cleaners and gardeners and carrying out maintenance etc. Typing in "pondok wisata" in the search box you will get many hits.
