Quite drastic (proposed) increase in Borobudur entrance fees;
- Foreigners: USD 100
- Locals: IDR 750k
- Local students IDR 5000
- Limited to 1200 visitors per day
Possible additional costs: Mandatory guide and mandatory local transport by Electrical Vehicle. Disneyland prices to visit a 100meter x 100meter temple...

If this shakedown concept catches on maybe hikes are coming in Bali as well. Just by checking a few "tourist attractions" on google, appears that post-covid entrance fees to some popular temples are up >50%....

Could be part of the plan as minister (behind the Borobudur entrance fees) also proposed in 2021 a ban of low spending backpackers to Bali post covid. Protests erupted and plan was backtracked: https://coconuts.co/bali/news/no-ba...nts-clean-bali-when-foreign-tourism-restarts/

Thanks for sharing. I saw this posted on FB. I always thought Angkor Wot is expensive at around $30 for tourists. Even local prices are expensive. If they are trying to restrict entrance to students only, then they have achieved their goal.

The price increase relates to climbing to the top of Borobudur, not to the entrance ticket. Luhut Binsar Panjaitan was taken out of context in his announcement. He said "naik"(to climb), not "masuk" (to enter)

Kompas - Bukan Tiket Masuk Candi Borobudur, Ini Harga yang Naik Jadi Rp 750.000.

Google Translate version of the Kompas article:

"JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government plans to increase the ticket for Borobudur Temple to Rp. 750,000/person. The increase in ticket prices aims to limit the number of visitors so that the condition of the temple as a permanent cultural heritage remains sustainable. However, the ticket price, which reaches Rp. 750,000 per person, is not an entrance ticket, but a ticket up to the top of the Borobudur Temple . President Director of PT Aviasi Wisata Indonesia (Persero)/InJourney, Dony Oskaria, said that the entrance ticket to Borobudur Temple has not changed. "Don't be mistaken with the Borobudur entrance ticket, yes. The entrance ticket is fixed, but the ticket to go up to the temple was changed in order to limit it," Dony told Kompas.com, Sunday (5/6/2022)......"

About 7 million tourist visit the Eiffel Tower every year...
That's equivalent to 1/10 of the population of France.

Prices ?

And that is in a 1st class expensive country...

Thanks for clarification, so:
US$ 25 to access only the grounds around the temple base (this ticket allowed full access pre-covid)
US$ 100 to climb the temple itself.

Most tourists will surely be frustrated as the finer details regarding access will not be clear to them until they arrive at the temple...

Quite a few tourists to Bali have found out that their temple "entrance ticket" is limited to viewing the temple from some distance, e.g. Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu Beratan. All this is caused by lack of transparency and clear information both online and at ticket counters.

Response to #2:
I can mention (another favorite): Full access ticket Taj Mahal (including the mausoleum) is currently a reasonable US$15.
