Friend just throw a beer party and forget the dowsers - the result will be about the same. Bad head, pockets empty and no water in sight.

not trying to be an smartass...but of the top of my head : have you tried asking people in/around your village (neighbors), or friends in the area, or the kepala desa?

I often see hand painted signs around with "sumber bore" and a mobile number on it. But I have heard that there are companies in Denpasar that can drill deep bores. It seems the only solution for hotels now in the south is to go deeper and deeper to find water. I think asking people around you as Gilbert suggests is good advice. Maybe there is a spring around you that you could pipe water from.

Friend is just 20 minutes away from us in Amed and there is basically no water over there to be had hence the brown vegetation and desert like look of the place. The locals come out with very little water and I believe the only source is that from the city mains which means if you are off the road by any length... have a beer party.

You probably bought your land during the rainy season?

I really am lost. I thought asking an important question (at least for me) will get me some serious and not foolish answers. But obviously I am in the wrong forum. By the way, at the bottom of the hill, where my parents in law live (exactly under our property) is groundwater all the year around. Therefore, as a non-expert I got the feeling that it comes from the mountains...

If you already know where the ground water is then ... you already know where the ground water is!

Since its all loose sandy soil the level of water where your property lies (above your parents) will be the same as theirs as their is no impermeable subterranean rock layers that will make a higher aquifer for you. If your parents are near a rice paddy then that will be the water level .... usually. But that aint for sure since most of the rice farmers go to the subak when they need water and just get is directed over to their land (usually do it themselves).

You will probably be better off getting a decent pump and pumping it up to your land from the inlaws. Will be loads cheaper than digging and now you can throw a beer party for the money I've saved you. When can I expect my invite?

Last piece of free advice: if you want to enjoy you life and time here on Bali lighten the fuck up! If you are building here your problems have just started so better get some calluses on those nerves real fast.

I think the best advice you can get is to ask the people around you for advice. I am sure people can suggest someone from Denpasar who can drill your bore, but if you don't have to go down too far then someone locally can probably do it for you. What does your family suggest? They are the best first point of contact. Most builders will have contacts for tukang who can do the job.

Mat in the other thread gives good advice in that if you find someone who says they can do it, get an agreement made up (preferably with a notary) that you will only pay if they are successful.

First, there are NO rice paddies in the area of Lipah/Ahmed. How long have you been in Bali so far?
Second, there is solid rock and not sand.
The idea, to pump it up to about 250m above sea level seems to be not so bad. Thanks for the advice. We will still ask some diviners also

Guy there are rice paddies all up the mountain towards Amlapura - your 5 are stretch of Bali isn't personally know to me, no.

Get film of the diviners and Youtube it for all of us to enjoy and if you expect to get one of them to get out of bed without payment first then I have a bridge in San Francisco to sell.

I really do not understand. Are you playing stupid or ...? Show me ONE rice paddy in the Lipah-area (not Amlapura as you mentioned). If you live in Karangasem you actually should know better.
Yes, I will certainly youTube it. I actually have already several diviner who do not ask for ONE Rupiah. I will let you know who has to pay for the beer (although I do not drink)

"A 1948 study tested 58 dowsers' ability to detect water. None of them was more reliable than chance.[16] A 1979 review examined many controlled studies of dowsing for water, and found that none of them showed better than chance results.[5] A 2006 study of grave dowsing in Iowa reviewed 14 published studies and determined that none of them correctly predicted the location of human burials, and simple scientific experiments demonstrated the fundamental principles commonly used to explain grave dowsing were incorrect.[17]

More recently a study[18] was undertaken in Kassel, Germany, under the direction of the Gesellschaft zur Wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung von Parawissenschaften (GWUP) [Society for the Scientific Investigation of the Parasciences]. The three-day test of some 30 dowsers involved plastic pipes through which water flow could be controlled and directed. The pipes were buried 50 centimeters under a level field, the position of each marked on the surface with a colored strip. The dowsers had to tell whether water was running through each pipe. All the dowsers signed a statement agreeing this was a fair test of their abilities and that they expected a 100 percent success rate. However, the results were no better than chance."

No wonder, doesn't drink!

If you head up the mountain from Amed towards Amlapura all those flat green places on the mountain side are called rice paddies - it's a dead give-away that there's rice growing on most of them.

Hey cut him some slack - the poor fecker's looking for water when he doesn't find that just think how happy he will be to discover the benefits of booze.

At least when he wakes up a morning with a dry mouth he'll know why...
