Exporting from Bali

Hi everyone.

Been hanging around here the past week but finally decided to put a post up.
My name is Jack and I am from the UK however I now live in Spain. Been to Bali before and loved it so planning on going back around November time. Traveled around a bit whilst there last time so seen a few places (Kuta, Ubud, Sanur, Lagian).

I own an online specialist bicycle shop and import from a few countries. When searching for info on holidays in Bali I came across this site and another called Bukalapak which is a classified site. To my surprise there seems to be a lot of high quality used bikes for sale on there which got me thinking about exporting them from Bali to either UK or Spain.

Just wondering if anyone on here has some advice or contacts maybe?
I would be looking to buy 4 or 5 bikes to make it worth my while. Hopefully from the same buyer so this would bring the price down as I would likely be spending about £1000-£1500 GBP per bike.

I guess shipping via a container would be cheaper than by air through your typical courier company.

Don't know squat about top end bikes but just be sure you are getting what it says on the label.

Having said that in the last couple of years biking seems to have really taken off here but now seems to be sinking again - saw loads of Indos with all the Lycra advert Ts and shorts with funky helmets trying to ride bikes but that wave seems to have died out now - it do get hot here.

Possibly that might be your source for the good used bikes?

That is good to hear. Maybe there is a lot of the bike tucked away in people houses waiting to be bought!

I may put an advert on Bukalapak and see what responses I get. If I can find a dealer/private seller he can hold some stock and then arrange for the lot to go in one shipment.

Being Bali though I will have to be careful. Try and find a legitimate seller.
If not much comes up I will hopefully be in Bali November time so could look whilst out.

Hi GC2012,
Please understand that you can't export from Bali. If you buy in Bali your goods will be transported to Surabaya where they will be exported. This gives you the choice of either trucking your goods to Surabaya or having a container brought from Surabaya. The latter choice is very expensive.
Your are wise in shipping by container. It is less costly and far more secure from damage. That being said, it means having enough goods to adequately stuff (fill) the container. This is meant for economy and to keep goods from shifting and thus incurring damage.

Can of worms, I think you will find economically that the actual administration costs far outweigh the profit margin.

For seafreight definetly cheaper than airfreight, neverthless 20' to UK / Spain will cost at least $1900 and sometime there will be GRI which adding at least $500 for 20' and rate will be up and down but we can nego rate ofcourse, and also the expenses for packing and trucking your container at least spent another $1900. Im working in a shipping Line and you can definetly stuffing your goods in Bali and the route will be Benoa - Surabaya - Singapore - Destination. For more information you can contact me
