T H, 51, a Dutch citizen known by the nickname “Mr Hank” who lives in Kradjan Gombengsari village, Banyuwangi, East Java, seems to have fallen out with his neighbours for anti social behaviour.

Dozens of them protested his alleged behaviour at the Kalipuro district office to complain that he had engaged in bawdy acts, damaged a school window and a mosque piped water system, and threatened some elementary school students with a pistol.

“We don’t want Mr Hank in town anymore,” said Agus, a villager, on Wednesday.

It appears, on closer examination of the case, that a series of miscommunications may have soured relations between T H and the local community. He has been accused of using and hard-surfacing without permission land belonging to the local elementary school as an access to his new house behind the school.

T H, who speaks fluent Bahasa Indonesia, arrived in the village two years ago, having settled initially in Denpasar in 2010. He has a coffee plantation business and raises catfish and ducks.

Meanwhile, local police have denied that T H possesses a firearm. “I don’t feel I’ve done anything wrong,” he protested.
