Hi, would love to hear from any Aussies who are currently managing to live in Bali on the age pension. Is it possible? where are you living? how do you manage to pay rent? staff? can you afford entertainment? socialising? eating out? I am hoping to retire to Bali, but am a little skeptical that it is possible. Shane

I am not sure what the pension is paying now, I am sure it is possible on even a low income to live in Bali, it just depends on the lifestyle and location of where you want to live. Property prices have increased dramatically over the past few years, so rent will be a major expense. Cost of living is cheaper outside of the main tourist centers. Basic living expenses like food, should be cheaper than Australia, but you also have to consider other expenses like flights, insurance, visas etc.

Legian, Bali
I'd also suggest you read some of the posts in the "Cost of Living" section of the forum.

The initial post is a couple of years old, so maybe add 10 to 15 percent to the prices quoted.

Well, the Aussie age pernsion is about $770 per fortnight, but I have some cash for up front expenses such as rent for a year or more.

A Balinese can survive on a $150 monthly salary. Some expats spend that on dinner alone.
