Publishers Nettwerk One (NW1) and Island Records Australia are joining forces to host a song writing in a bid to create hit singles and album tracks for artists including former Westlife singer Brian McFadden and Australian artist, Delta Goodrem.

The retreat will be held in Bali at the end of the month, and will see Australian singer Cassie Davis, DJ Havana Brown, reggae fusion artist Marvin Priest and recording artist Gary Go join McFadden and Goodrem to work with around 10 songwriters and producers.

NW1 UK managing director Blair MacDonald says that the organisation’s writers have been very successful in Australia, Japan and the Pacific Rim territories over the past 18 months with Fredrik “Fredro” Odesjo and Gary Clark both securing some very significant writing and production credits and notes, “This is a great way to capitalise on this profile and build stronger relationships with labels, their artists and collaborators on the other side of the world.”

NW 1 Peter Coquillard explains the idea for a song writing retreat in Bali came about after a discussion with Island Records Australia.

“Ubud is truly Bali’s pre-eminent centre for fine arts, dance and music,” he says. “And when Michael Taylor, Head of Island Records Australia, and I were discussing putting together an exceptional retreat in a truly unique place, we couldn’t think of a more vibrant, creative and inspiring place to conduct it.”

Island Records Australia’s Michael Taylor also believes the event’s location will bring about some hits and adds, “With this calibre of song-writing talent and artistry, and with the beautiful surroundings of Ubud, great music and collaborations are bound to come forth.”
