Can I get everyones take on the level of inflation in Bali since Feb 2022?

Although not in Bali I can live on about 20 million Rp per month. This does not include rent as I have my own house. Food is going up daily as we approach Xmas and new year. A kilo of tomatoes at the local market for example as gone from Rp5000 to Rp15000 in three weeks. Eggs also are going up...

    Sex outside marriage

Well its been taken into law today although it will not be enforced for 3 years. Since I first came here in 1983 it has become more and more Islamised. Here in Makassar you cannot even buy a beer from shops and supermarkets. I am just glad the people are still as nice as ever.

    Sex outside marriage

In addition to people in love there is a huge sex industry in Indonesia and not just for tourists. The money involved is immense. Police will be bribed to look away. It will just add to endemic corruption and will solve nothing.

    Sex outside marriage

But how can it be enforced. If its anything like the adultery laws as practiced in Ache it will have to be witnessed. Practically it is unlikely to happen. However, I suppose folks staying in a hotel etc could be asked to show their documentation.

    Sex outside marriage

I cannot believe they are going to put a law through banning sex outside marriage and making it a criminal offence subject to a year in jail. Did they not learn from the last time they tried it. Tourism will be killed. Also how they would enforce it I do not know.

    Back Home

Been back 8 days after a two-year absence due to covid restrictions. Been organising renovations to my house in Makassar and tonight off to a traditional family wedding. Wednesday to the village in Gods own country of Toraja. I have brought all my camera equipment including my latest drone so...

    Health Insurance

Thank you. I have the same info from another source. I contacted Jagawisata and it is 500,000 per month which seems ok. They also clearly state that they do not cover previous conditions. To obtain similar insurance in the UK costs a fortune so I will likely go with this. Thanks for your reply.

    Health Insurance

Can someone explain what this means please, apologies if asked before: Proof of insurance coverage from an insurance company incorporated as a legal entity in Indonesia that covers health costs during the traveller’s stay in Indonesia. It seems to suggest buying insurance in Indonesia. If not...

    Hello strangers

Well for better or worse we are in the UK. I would have loved to stay but medical facilities in Makassar are exhorbitant and having survived lung cancer in October last year I just could not take the risk. Apart from that I agree with Markit.

    Hello strangers

Just wanted to wish you guys a safe life during the present situation. I was on my annual visit to Sulewesi when all this started and was frightend of being here and no way out. I managed to get flights for myself and Maria and arrived back in the UK a week ago. As you will have seen it gets...

    Back again......well almost

Well just a day to go and back on the silver budgie to the UK. Had a trip round the island and somewhat disappointed. Obviously not the Bali I knew from 34 years ago but it just seems to deteriorate every year. I can understand the local economy trying to make a buck but it just seems to be...

    Back again......well almost

Almost a year since I was last in Bali and stayed for a week in Sanur. This time I am arriving on the 24th and have booked 10 days in Legian. This might be my last trip for a while as its maybe time to move to Pastures new and start my bucket list of places to see before the inevitable overtakes...

    Long time

The reason I never retired to Bali was the complexity of owning property there. I found it difficult to trust after reading and seeing the horror stories of what could happen. I own a house in Makassar where my wife's younger brother looks after it full time and is totally trustworthy. That has...

    Long time

Well 9 months has passed and we are back in Toraja at the beginning of Feb for 7 weeks and then back to Bali for a 10 day holiday in Legian and surrounds. I find it much easier to get cheap flights to Bali than to Jakarta and then on to Makassar. It gives me the excuse to have a holiday in Bali...
