    The beaches in rainy season

You''re asking a bit much Balifrog. Every day on facebook pages, people ask what's the temperature today, when they're arriving in 3 months. Also what's the exchange rate.....I'm coming in July, and those people are permitted to travel ALONE!!!

    The beaches in rainy season

I'm not a beach type, so Bali is still worth visiting for me. I never set foot on a beach on the south coast, and only occasionally walk on a beach in the north, never immerse myself in salt water, even at home.

    The beaches in rainy season

Yep, the problem is largely caused by the locals. Tourists are generally environmentally aware, and don't pitch their rubbish into the environment..

    Rentals

For 'foreigners with this mindset', insert 'morons'. The problem is that they get caught up in the excitement of being in a foreign country, and feeling like multi millionaires. Of course,as you say, the locals are more than ready to capitalize on such stupidity. I'm often intrigued at the...

    Rentals

The scenario you paint of foreigners arriving with a bucket of cash and a desire to spend it fast reminds me of a post I saw a few days ago. Some clown said he willingly pays A$50 for a car airport to Seminyak and vice versa (a Bluebird is about $10 max), $20 for a massage (normal $10), and tips...

    Rentals

My observation is that HOTEL prices are about the same, and a couple I've booked for my next stay are marginally less than they were in 2020.

    Proposed Villa architect/design and builder

Even supervising your build yourself in a western country, unless your building knowledge is of a high standard, you'll still be fleeced. The entire building industry is comprised of scammers of varying levels of scamming ability.

Two weeks into my visit... I'm in love.

Summer in Lovina means a pilgrimage to Bedugul and surrounds, always green, always cool, frequently raining, my favourite place on the planet.

Young Balinese Man wanting to expand his Horizons

An a A Balinese acquaintance from the place I stay in Ubud is currently working in Australia, along with what sounds like a large number of young Balinese. He said it took a 'long time' to get a visa, but he's now in Sydney, working in a restaurant. It's a one year working visa, non...

Young Balinese Man wanting to expand his Horizons

If the If the RBA had been early to the party, and started increasing interest rates a year ago, and was at the same position now, you'd have been worse off. The fuel excise is one way of rasing money by the government. If it doesn't come from fuel excise, it has to be raised another way...

Some places are not quite 'magic'.

I agree Jack. Modern Bali at least has near decent services, and some very good services. One doesn't have to leave Bali to see the 'Bali of old'. Lovina comes pretty close, along with a host of other places. I still love the place after 43 years of visiting, and living there for a year...

Some places are not quite 'magic'.

Agree Foamcrest. Bali is to some/many Australians what Spain and Portugal are to the Brits.

Some places are not quite 'magic'.

I'm Australian, but I avoid the strip from Tuban to Canggu like the plague, and Ubud isn't far behind. I still spend a night or two in Ubud on each visit, twice this year, and again in November, but spend little time 'downtown'. It certainly isn't the place it was 20 years ago, but where...

    Hi,

So typical of families in 'developing' countries where the foreign husband is seen as a pot of gold to be milked. Well done on drawing the line!!

Plan for 5 year tourist visa comes at a price

Agree Agreed, but even though the person builds a house, and spends almost US$200K, they must ALSO deposit US$200K!!

    Meanwhile in Thailand

Kids think they know too much, so not interested. They think they're different, and can try different drugs and not get hooked. I have one in my family, started on dope, no problem she said, dope is not addictive, but then needed to try something more, and it's a one way road.

    Meanwhile in Thailand

It does have medicinal uses, but that's after the hallucinogenic component has been removed. People who smoke dope to alleviate pain are making excuses for using drugs.

Australian swimmer Neil Brooks living in Bali wanted for fraud in Australia

I haven't suggested otherwise. In fact, I said this in an earlier post.........."I didn't, and wouldn't, suggest that they owed anybody anything until the case has been proved". I AM saying that the authorities may pay to bring them back to face the charges. There are two, or more, parties...

Australian swimmer Neil Brooks living in Bali wanted for fraud in Australia

They are merely reporting the situation as they see it. Our justice system will be grateful that they have been located without the expenditure of public monies trying to locate them, as was the case with Skase in Spain many years ago.

Australian swimmer Neil Brooks living in Bali wanted for fraud in Australia

I understand the situation. Christopher Skase was never charged, but the government was prepared to provide a jet to bring him from Spain back to Australia, and fly low, unpressurized, because he claimed that he couldn't fly due to his lung condition, just so that he could provide answers to...
