Sitting on a beach yesterday with a buddy drinking icy Biny and generally watching all the large(ly) naked women on display thanking our lucky stars that we didn't have to work, get on a plane, cook, move much or generally do shit that we didn't really want to do. And it occurred that most of the other westerners on that beach, in Bali, feck - in the world had it sooo damned good we should be grinning like we'd won the lottery. Why is it then that most westerners spend their time looking like they have a mouth full of shit? It's the Balinese that don't have two Rupiah to rub together, no medical insurance worth the name, have to eat white rice with little else for the foreseeable future, see their country being sold off to shit-eating foreigners, that are all walking around with beautiful brown faces with the widest, whitest grins to be found damn near anywhere I've been?

..I saw you smiling but I thought it was wind...

Cos the foreigners have to go home.

Sitting on a beach yesterday with a buddy
I had trouble believing you at this point in your post. Do you have photos or even a name for this "fictitious" buddy? Or maybe it is the poor little four legged critter that you now drag around places with you?

Married men with wife and possibly offspring in tow see young beauties flashing secret smiles at them. In little time they fly back to reality with mortgages, credit card payments and the tedium of their lives. That's my guess.
samsiam
Yes the secret smile has brought many undone...

Smile ... heyy great idea for a song...Smile though your heart is breaking .... smile though your piles are aching ... ok ...needs some work......just don't mention Camels ... sheeit!!! I just DID!

You are correct Joe, the song does need a little bit more work done on it. I am not too sure if the lyrics are a bit off or if it is the backing music.Fine tune it and get back to us.

At the risk of being accused of being too literal: A combination of a sugar laced diet & poor oral hygiene.I'd venture the following; Those Western tourists you DO see smiling are infact dentists spending your money before going back to the grind

You paint a lovely picture Markit. I do wish to get rid of a particularly unpleasant taste from my mouth - not sure if it tastes of sh*t as I'm glad I haven't yet tried that. I look forward to seeing the smiles and grinning.

Be warned all that once you've been made aware of this you run the risk of being locked away or chained to your bed (in the Balinese style) because you will now be walking around all day with an inane (possibly, insane) grin plastered all over the face until your face starts to actually hurt. Then you will start to glance more often (girls ignore this, not possible for you, I'm afraid) into mirrors and reflective surfaces to see if you are, in fact, enjoying yourself. I may have created a monster and my face hurts.

Smile, not because you have to but because it feels good to smile.

For the first 5 hours or so....

I know. I've been to Bali so many times and noticed this before. There are so many unhappy western people, I just don't get it. I'm with you, I don't have to worry about going to work, etc. I love retirement and embraced it when it came. I think those beautiful Balinese people realize that it doesn't take so much to be happy. Happiness is within--like you and your mate just appreciating the life you have.

agreed but maybe cause those westerners want to change Bali in so many many ways
Exactly....who would want to change the status quo.... where people like smoke can drive the (so-called) highways on their expensive and noisy motorbikes for fun, with police escort, causing traffic jams, denying others equal space, including ambulances. But maybe they aren't Balinese!!!

Davita import taxes were paid on my Harley along with the rest of the Balinese,Javenise and other non locals. We abide by the laws just like anyone else.
