Well....it's over and UK has voted to leave EU. Overnight the UKP has dropped from US$1.49 to 1.34. the lowest since 1985. The rate for IDR is hovering around 18,000...lucky I sold most of my sterling a couple of weeks ago at 20,000. Expats on UK pensions in sterling, like myself, will have lost 10% of their purchasing power in Indonesia. There will surely be a blood-letting on the stock-markets when they open....:grumpy: I predict a slippery slope for EU and recession imminent for UK. Edit: The difference between the leave vs stay was 1.27 M votes from about 35 M voters. I believe 45 M were eligible to vote and flooding in south UK hampered the referendum.

I predict the EU is finished. Certainly in its current, bloated, unaccountable form. The Eurocrats have had their come-uppance at the hands of the British working class - there is no doubt that the less well off demographic trumped the remainers on this one. The London luvvies failed to get enough of their foot soldiers to the polling booths and the plebs won the day (btw, I count myself with the plebs). Interesting days and months ahead, for sure. What price Scottish independence now?

Odd that the Scots, much more socialistic than South (England) voted with them to remain, when most of socialistic Midlands (England) voted to exit.

I have been in the UK now for 10 days and my time here in London was crowned by the chance to vote for an exit. Most of the population of London are stinky rich and dress like they were joining a circus with absolutely no care for what the rest of the people in the country want or do. Truth is the wealth has not made it much above the M25 (ring road around the capital) and today was payback for that neglect. My take is that England (who cares about the Haggis-bashers,Welsh and Northern Ireland) is well out of the bankrupt disaster which is the EU and will probably be shortly followed by the Greeks/Dutch/Italians/Spanish/Portuguese and even France. Interesting times!

The Scots will never join the EU separately as they would have to offer up the £ and take on the Euro and if there's one way to make a Scotsman think clearly it's if you threaten his dosh.

I agree that this was payback by the working class for neglect but its was also about immigration. The country is now severely fractured and the next referendum may well be another Scottish independence referendum. P.S. there goes my sons European passport unless Scotland gets independence

For what it's worth I think the whole threat of Scots devolution is purely a power play from the lame Scots politicians trying for more power. Even if they decide to have another go it first has to be allowed by Westminster and that won't happen again any time soon - methinks!? Scottish cheese? Even I've not heard of that! Glenmorange Cheddar is a concept I can get my head around...

The first minister Nicola Sturgeon is probably the most articulate and smartest politician in the U.K (thats not saying much though) As for the cheese they get millions on visitors looking for the Loch Ness monster thought that you may believe the cheese thing. I wonder what form the eu will be in within a year, It seems the dutch, scandis and even the french are unhappy with it, I would suggest the scots wait awhile and watch the fallout in europe.

In a year the ink will barely be dry on the new arrangements. More interesting to think how 23/06/16 will be viewed in 5 years or 10 years. By then it will be clearer if it triggered an economic downturn, whether it gave impetus to far-right elsewhere in Europe, whether EU is unraveling, etc.

I don't follow that logic RonB. If the Scottish Nationalists had a strategy to another shot at Independance surely they would have voted to exit. Remaining would deny them that route, as the status quo would prevail, and it has already been established that Scotland would NOT have another shot at independance. As it is..... the overwhelming working class in the Midlands still managed an exit majority (sans Scots voting over 60% to remain) and now the Scottish Nationalists have already acknowledged plans for another separation vote.
