Disabled mobility options

Hi, coming to Sanur again in August. My Oz mate whom I'm meeting has a leg off. Can we get him a 3 or 4 wheel scooter? Any other options? Some places, no doubt will try to take advantage. Cheers

Most of the Ozzies in Sanur are completely fecking legless most of the time anyway so he should fit right in - probably beat most of them in a marathon. What's that joke about a one-legged guy in a butt-kicking contest? There is no way you will get a 3 or 4 wheel scooter - the pavements are non-existent or full of holes - maybe a skateboard?

If you're talking about a mobility scooter, I totally agree with Markit. I doubt he'd get more than 20 metres. There are 3 wheel scooters in Bali but they all look like custom jobs, made for a specific individual. As far as I know, you can't just go and buy one. I've never seen one for rent and can't find anything on Google. Sorry.

Look on this page https://littlemissbali.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/yayasan-kupu-kupu/ and you will see a pic with motorbikes that have been locally modified with "training wheels". I see them around Ubud because of the Yayasan Kupu Kupu which works with disabled people. I think I once saw somewhere that this modification almost doubles the price of a motorbike.

Thanks for all the support youse lot. It took a while for me to come back out of the bedroom and stop sobbing but with your help I've managed it. Now, this may sound off the wall - it is meant seriously. We often get people come and stay that have problems with having all their wants and needs catered to by my staff. Unsurprisingly they do get used to it fairly quickly, hence my suggestion: Why don't you rent a wheelchair for your mate and hire one or even two locals to push him around Sanur to his hearts content? Might I suggest a couple of pretty girls? See No.idea...? It will be a holiday he will never forget!

Lately, I have been noticing some production 3 wheeler sepida motor (bike/scooter) on roads in Bali. I couldn't tell you if they are imported or produced in Indo' but I have seen them around Ubud lately. Some are obviously custom jobs and some are obviously factory produced. I also think I have seen some of the 3 wheelers that have 2 wheels in the front, available for renting in Bali. I'll check it out again and advise of the rentals if I find the site again. Just be aware that without a current and valid Oz motorcycle licence that is coupled with an International drivers permit then no-one is legally allowed to ride a motor bike/scooter here. If anything untoward would happen without the above criteria, your travel insurance company will wash their hands of you faster than their phone staff can say........'please hold'.................................................................................................................................................................. p.s. Markit is actually a very funny guy and like all funny guys can sometimes miss the mark(it) by others interpretations. I don't think that he meant any harm. Is your mates loss of limb recent?

In Sanur I have seen many wheelchairs, and those laydown bicycle things which you peddle with your hands. Everyone uses the road, not footpaths. Cars etc. just go around them. Also have seen the mobility scooters. I think 4 wheel. Don't know whether obtained locally or brought with . A friend who had a 4 wheeler in Oz used to have his flown with him on Qantas flights. Don't know if they still do this.

Pleased you're feeling better. My legs are not so good, maybe a 2 seater would be an idea.

No on the ones made in a benkel in Bali ronb, maybe on the ones made in Singapore or somewhere else, but the modification a few years ago it was between 3.500.000 rp to 5.000.000 rp maximum, just a friend made the side car for his motorbike and it was 5.000.000 rp

Thanks, good info. He told me he's going for a mobility scooter which I don't think is suitable. We'll see. Thanks for your reply.

OK, thanks Steve. Yes he had the amputation in the last couple of years and then some complications.....infection. He's just got a new prosthetic so needs some practice. I just can't see a mobility scooter being any good there but that's what he's looking to do. Let's hope something turns up. Cheers.

It will only help someone else if we know where and for how much he booked the scooter - please advise.

The only one I know he found in Sanur was US$25 a day which is why I started searching. I'll let you know if it's less.

Ah well those prices make more sense. And a sidecar would work if the aim was to make sure you don't have to put a leg down when you stop. There is a place in Junjungan that does work with sidecars, and they seem to have a Vespa thing going too.

He's paid a deposit on $20 pd and the villa owner has now found $16 elsewhere. I knew he was going too fast! No rush for August.
