Holiday in Austria

Hello! My friend is from Bali, Indonesia and he'd like to come to Austria. He was in Denmark last winter. The questions are now, does he has to make a new Schengenvisa for Austria, i read its lasting one year until it expires and you can visit this countries a few times. Or that you can only use it a half year after the "first entry" in one of the Schengenstates. Do you also know if he has to make a new finger print for Austria - he already made one for Denmark. And does he have to go to the Austrian embassy in Jakarta or can he go to the one in Kuta, Bali (Joint Visa Application Centre)? I wrote an E-Mail to the Austrian embassy in Jakarta and they wrote both address back to me. Is it also [U]reall[/U]y necessary to make a travel insurance? He will stay maybe one month. Looking forward to your answers. :)

All the Austrian stuff you are much better situated to answer as I suspect as each situation is very individual and there will be masses of private questions only you can answer - I also suspect that the travel insurance will be necessary for getting the Austrian permission to come as they don't want him to fall onto the public purse should he get ill there. Best I can do, sorry.

Jeez! I wrote you a long travel itinerary for your 4 minute trip to Sidemen (probably took me longer to write than you will be there) and I'm unable to help this lady and doubt anyone else will answer her detailed request so maybe the old sack is gradually withering and drying up or perhaps I just feel sorry for helpless feckers like you.

Thank you. I already send E-Mails to the Austrian Federal Ministery and also the Austrian Embassy in Jakarta and so on, but all they do is sending me links of the websites where I have to look on my own, but nobody is answering my questions and I cannot find my answers in those sites.

Marlene .. go to Dutch consular representative in Bali . I think it is jl. Imam Bonjol across Harris hotel. They will issue Schengen visa with which you can travel around EU ! Now .. here is the tricky part ... I think you need to have visit Holland as well .. because they migt want not to issue the visa for Schengen . I am not sure if they are obligated to do so if you fulfill all docs and all and apply . They must give you some reasonable answer for being declined. You might save your trip to Jakarta for visiting Austrian embassy. I did that when I was traveling with wife to EU. It was cheaper to get her tourist visa for EU from Holland honorarry consulate than to get visa from my own embassy for my spoues (as spouse or tourist). They are sending all those applicants to Holland embassy in Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta fro aproval, and you do not have to go personally (applicants do not have to go) Do not ask people who work in honorary consulate there, but call Holland embassy in Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur and ask them if it is possible to obtain Schengen visa over their honorary consulate in Bali and what would be the terms ! + ask is it a must for obtaining Schengen visa (issued by Dutch embassy) to visit Netherland and stay in there ? Or it is possible to get it and to be valid on all EU/Schengen zone and would be issued by them without problem ! The price for it was around 100eur or something ... in total ... when you pay all their intermediery fees and what not ... Could save you time and $ going to Jakarta (for me/us it did)

So the thing is, the Schengenvisa lasts for five years and you can visit the Schengen states several times. If I'm wrong please correct me. :lemo:

Then you might have to hurry, they are closing the Dutch consulate in Bali as per July 1st.

For a schengen visa from the dutch consular you need to stay a significant part of your holiday in Holland, they will not issue it if you have a stop over in Amsterdam. There are tourist and visitor visas. As a visitor you must have an invitation and a sponsor (you need to have a job and funds to become a sponsor, you need to live in the inviting country as well). As a tourist you have to prove that you can afford the trip. For the application you need bank book copies of the last three months, a travel insurance and a valid passport. Austria also wants to know exactly where the tourist gonna stay during the trip. "He's living in my father's house no problem" is not a valid answer. The Schengen visa itself can vary. If it's valid for one year and has a 90 days registered (!) length of stay, the person can be legally in Austria and the other Schengen Countries for maximum 90 days / 6 months. However most of the Schengen visas are just valid for the indicated time (travel itself). For the next trip you need to apply again. After all these terror attacks (Paris etc) getting a visa for Europe ain't a walk in the park anymore. Especially if the guest is from a major muslim country. Plus it looks like especially Austria these days is worrying that a tourist might become another "refugee"....that means if the tourist has no job, no house or land in Indonesia they might reject the application

I was told something like that ... But I took a booking for 3 day Hostel in Amsterdam (gave them copy of bookin which cost like 15$ for booking fee) + my spouse EU entry point was Amsterdam. So I guess ... it would be kind of stupid from them to refuse. I would also like to know the reason if they actually do (but this was last year, before Paris crap, nowdays maybe it is different). I said to them that we/she will be staying in Holland for only 3 days ! + you need to prove that you have sufficiant funds as a tourist to get Schengen tourist visa. I think it was something like 30eur per day of stay !? They request checkbook photocopy + original to be shown. But I do not know how this prooves any security against economical refugee since that many can be borrowed for a day for this purpose and deposited to your account !! + you need medical insurance which cover you like 30 or 60 days. It is that medical insurance wich covers all expenses up to 50 000 eur emergency costs durning that time in EU. It cost, I do not remember like 50eur or something. AXA have it.. You can even find some dirty cheap .. Some backpacker insurances online I dont know... Anyway this aint expensive thing ... + you need to have address or all addreses where you will reside in Europe. I had to provided some sort of sponsorship statement (signed by me at the end) That I will host her at my address in Europe. If this is not the case I think you should provide at least few hostel bookings etc ... Coz I do not know how they treat those people who wish to travel by train, backpacjers in EU. There are millions of them without known addresses right away. Anyway I needed a writen statement (some sort of sponsorship) that this Indoensian persone will be residing at my adress in EU. Do I need to say that on your documents which you should copy and bring must have your adress in EU. I mean you need to vouch that you reside in there .. so therefore you vouch for the traveler. !!! Schengen visa allows you to travel inside Schengen zone (which is not same as EU) You can check online which countries are under Schengen rule in EU. Like I said ... call Holland embasy and ask directly them if this can be done this way. Do not ask for some intermediary agents and Indonesia personel ANYWHERE. They do not know what is EU what is Schengen etc ... [U]Ask them do the entry point need to be Netherland to obtain visa from them or .... !!??[/U] I have good experience with Duch people ! I mean .. no problem at all .. which I can not say for my own consulat :(
