I believe these are the custom's officers and their promotions are tied to the people they catch. The guys said they knew the jail (at the police station) would be bad but was much worse than they expected.

Promotions being tied to "catches" is actually quite disturbing - shades of Ms. Corby? Need a promotion then just "find" some drugs on a passing bule... Spicy does your missus have any suggestions on how to minimize that danger?

I haven't heard of this ever happening and I think there are enough people being caught without them having to resort to this. There are also plenty of cctv cameras at the airport now.

I guess that's reassuring but I just tried to imagine getting access to the cctv footage to defend against a false claim. Can't say I felt all that empowered...
