There are a few providers on the island and they are all quite lousy. Indonet, Wasantara, Centrin are 3 of the biggest one on the Island. Getting connected can be a real challenge, and once connected your patience will be tested by the slow speed and for being constantly disconnected - then you'll just have to try to re-connect again :P . Morning time between 9 until 12 pm is the worse time to logon...
If you call the provider, most likely all your complains will fall on deaf ears - no kidding  They will try to put the blame phone company (it could be legit), the rain, the distance of your home (which is rediculous) and on and on...
At any rate, it's the rythm of the Island... we just have to move along with it... :P :P

Happy holidays to all! We will leave for Bali 3 weeks from today, Christmas day!
For all of you expats in various parts of Bali, what sort of internet services are there for your home connection? Does one have a choice of ISP's? If so, which ones deliver more reliable service? What sort of speeds are available? I've been assuming it's all dial-up service, with a max rate of 56kbps. Of course, if it is dial-up, then the actual speed is probably much slower than that. I suppose it is too much to hope there is any high-speed service available.
In our case, it's all speculative anyway, since there is not yet telephone service to our village on the Champuan ridge outside of Ubud. There is a "definite plan" to run the wires "soon", and the fellows have even been round signing folks up, asking how many lines we want to our house. Exactly when this will really happen is anyone's guess. Our contractor, who also lives locally, has been using some sort of radio tower transmitter for her phone, fax, and internet for the last couple of years. It's slow, and relatively expensive, but it works.
Any advice, assuming we do get telephone service in the reasonably near future?
Must dash over to the "other" forum...I'm feeling an uncontrollable urge to post a "xx sleeps to go" message.

What a shame that these providers have not yet learned that an inferior service should attract some form of discount to the end user by way of compensation! More sadly, this overall picture is just too commonplace in Bali, and yet another reason why there is a decline in tourism, which, as we all acknowledge, ultimately effects the most disadvantaged first and more than all the rest. :?
