It should be noted that this accident occurred at Halim which is Jakarta's second airport and not Soekarno-Hatta International located in Chengkareng. Halim previously was only used by the Air Force, VIP and private aircraft. It is only recently used by a handful of domestic carriers including Batik Airlines. I wouldn't be surprised to find the ground controllers were still military.

Are any of the pilots related to Rio Haryanto, the first Indonesian Formula 1 driver? At the Australian Grand Prix a few weeks ago, he managed to have a collision with another car in the pit lane doing about 5 mph. I wonder if he put on both his indicators and just assumed the other driver would know that he meant to grab right of way.

Very funny...I agree..... he probably has this Indonesian habit of pressing the hazard button when approaching an intersection therefore no-one knows who is turning where. back to the aircraft accident...I can imagine the dialogue... ATC........"BatikAir you are cleared for Take-Off....just avoid the Trasnusa aircraft being towed across the runway." BatikAir..."Does he have his blinkers ON?" ATC......."Affirmative...I can see them from here in the tower." BatikAir..."So which way is he turning?" ATC......."How to hell do I know...all four lights are blinking!" ****####&&&&++++ BatikAir..."I found him......he didn't turn!"

I flew from Halim around about 2001 to bandung that was a regular flight the company at the time was Deraha or something like that and in the 90s Merpati flew the same leg before the crisis. Two things happened on two separate occasions, one filling Bouraq air plane a guy above the wing with a 45 gallon drum on a pallet held aloft by a fork lift pumping fuel in with a hand pump. The second one was the plane was a shorts 360 the nick name was skyvan and the cockpit was open and i remember crossing the runway and the pilot stopped and checked for aircrafts like at a crossroads (not Indonesian crossroads) so there was problems back then.

Not all airports are controlled so stopping and visually checking is good airmanship. Even if ATC have given clearance, I don't think there is a pilot who would not have a good look left and right before crossing a live runway whether in a Piper Cherokee or an Airbus A320. Our resident Captain will no doubt be able to comment.

What a cool word!? Not really noticed it before. If you look where you're going on the road would that be "good roadmanship"? How about if you are in a boat is that then "good shipmanship"? Gotta ask - if you look where you are putting your dick - "good dickmanship"?
