Regarding the latter, I would say that this picture is definitely in Java, based on the head dresses of the musicians, but especially that of the two men standing up in the background, on the left. Their dresses are typical Javanese, including their blangkons.

looking at these photos especially around legian reminds me of why I loved Bali in the 80's walking from near Legian road on a sandy track through coconut trees.Now I get to inhale carbon monoxide and wonder where the beach has gone from those hideous red plastic chairs the hotels have put there..But if I want a nostalga fix there's a balinese community here near Banyuwangi that reminds me of the old days (quiet,cool and shady)
