LuigiG I know that we can't buy a new car without KITAS. But is it possible to buy a second hand car (with social budaya visa)?
Markit You can buy any car you want, new or 2nd hand, but just not have it in your name (new). I would advise you follow the "Bali Second Hand" or "Bali Buy and Sell" and all the others on Farcebook. The best deals you will get are from disillusioned Australians headed back home after 6 months with tail between legs and shedding all those new things they bought because they're gonna stay for a couple years too. Garage sales abound - just make sure you don't have one too in 6 months :O)
LuigiG Thanks for the info! I've been living in Thailand for 5 years now so I guess I am somehow "vaccinated" against desillusion :)
no.idea You do not transfer registration here, so you can buy a second hand car easily. Even with a KITAS we can not buy a new car in our own name. Cars do not devaluate quickly here so a second hand car is sometimes not that far away in price from a new one.

Fred2 Most people want there money back so the price is inflated to allow for Interest, insurance and so the price is high. Motor bikes the same, some cars you would be lucky to get $100 at the junk shop but in Indonesia they are for sale Rp5,000,000 gets you a fred Flintstone model:icon_e_surprised:
ronb Well, you could ask it the other way around. Why, in countries like Australia, do cars devalue so rapidly in their first year? There it is maybe 25% or more, here maybe 10% or less.
Markit In the west your new car devalues %10 when you drive it off the lot that first day. I presume the other %15 is down to most people with %75 of the dosh will pump their friends and family to get the rest for the "new" feeling and smell leaving those particular cars looking for buyers.
