spicyayam wroteI hope everyone had a relaxing day yesterday.
I know we have many holidays in Bali for various ceremonies, which of course I don't have a problem with. But it does seem like a one day holiday becomes extended to days off before and after the ceremonies.
For example at my son's school they marked off 8/9 for Nyepi. He went today, but none of the teachers showed up. Only the security guard was there.
Galungan also seems to be at a week long holiday. It is kind of related to the school thread and makes me think even if your kids go to a regular school, you need to do some kind of homeschooling for the time off they have, not mention the difficulty of trying to run a business.
Has it always been like this? or maybe I am just getting older.
I don't know if it has been always like that but at least it has been since my child who is 11 years old has been to a Balinese school, and if you look at the calendar of the class if they give any to your child, the week on 21th has 4 days of kegiatan tengah semester, that means they will be only playing at the school and on Friday 25th again Christian holidays.............
I am totally agree with you, to me sometimes I have the feeling they have more holidays or lazy days than really a proper school days, plus the most of the time I am quite sure they do almost nothing on the classes..............the schools are pretty boring here at least the public schools, they don't do much or I could dare to say the teachers are in many cases quite boring or has not much initiative or know how to teach in a more dynamic way, I feel really sad about this when I compare the way I studied or my school and the way my child is studying or her school.........a really high price to live on paradise.......
I though the same, Nyepi suppose to be one day holidays but became 3 days holidays, for many of the staffs as well, one day before, Nyepi day and the day after.
