The papers are all reporting that David Bowie was cremated and his ashes scattered here in Bali. Anyone know where?

I care in as much as this could help "put Bali on the map" to a different kind of public than the Bogans from your country and the menopausal, yoga freaks from Eat, Pay and Leave Ubudia. I'm interested in everything that might change my chosen home for the better. Blacky's ashes at Senia may be a big draw to your crowd but I'm guessing that might have a limited attraction for the rest of the world? Oh and I rather liked his early music too.

That's touching. A great touch being Australia day and his favourite pub. It means every time his mates go for a beer he's never far away.

Can't see it bringing in any extra tourist dollar, but i suppose every bit of publicity is good. When it comes and if its before you would you visit a bar or few If no.Idea had his ashes behind the bar/bars

Just curious 'what kind of public' are these people who would be interested in Bowies ashes and where they were scattered?

Since Bowie was one of the most popular pop Icons/figureheads and musicians of the last 60 years I seriously think people all over the would look at it and say "Wow! If Bowie thought Bali was where he wanted his ashes then it must be fecking good there!". And you know what they are absolutely right. (Geedee, I've said it a hundred times here: I'm really glad that Bogans love Kuta/Seminyuk/Jimbaran/etc and have nothing against them at all but I don't want to live next to it, thanks. )

Australian kids went back to school on Thursday 28th ,Jan private schools on 29th Jan. I think Jakarta people take holiday at start of January and go back on about the 7th as well. That's what I was told by driver

Bowie was clearly confused while making this request. He refers to Bali and a country. Also he thinks it is a buddhist country (island) when buddhist people make up about .5% of the population.

Bowie’s instructions in his will, prepared in 2004, reaffirm his ultimate connection to Buddhism: “I direct that my executors shall arrange for my remains to be taken to the country of Bali and to be cremated there in accordance with the Buddhist rituals of Bali.”

1. Since I posted 2 people have mentioned Bowie ashes one was in Bali same time as me the other said" so is Bali good then". so maybe this publicity is a real good thing. 2. Don't under estimate the Australian tourist dollar I dont know the dollar figure but over 1 mill visitors.How much do Australian tourists spend? For example 10 days we spent approx $6,000 including accommodation food transport clothes and presents etc not including airport taxes VOA and what wife and son spent.Bali needs the Bogans dollar. They would consume huge volumes of alcohol and what tax is on that?

There are many places getting very little revenue and closing and yet the polititians want to increase the Asian tourist market...problem is they don't spend like geedee and his wife...so the revenue does not reflect the numbers. I cannot see how Bowie's ashes here will increase any volume of Asian Tourists...low prices is what they look for...or, if selling hi-end product the taxes need to be removed. Who would come to Jakarta to buy a Rolex....nobody.

I actually thought Seminyak was much quieter middle of January than when last visited previous February I actually passed this restaurant about 6 times which is in the top 10 on tripadvisor and the most people I seen in there was 10 . Only real busy places at night that we passed were Char Char and Ginger Moon and some Italian restaurant This was evening between 7-10pm I would buy a Rolex in Jakarta(if it was a good copy)

I would buy a Rolex in Jakarta(if it was a good copy)

No comparison its like comparing Bali to Fiji There are far more Elvis freaks than Bowie ones. how many worldwide Elvis events and impersonators are there Elvis is the highest selling single artist of all time. There is something to see with Elvis like Graceland, recording studios,where he grew up etc etc. So are people going to come just to see an island that his ashes were scattered on?
