I don't know enough about business to debate...only what I read. Indonesia doesn't require every Company to be owned by Indonesians...there is a list of enterprises which permit different levels of Foreign Direct Ownerships. Some are barred from foreigners completely. Foreign ownership of Banks in Indonesia is causing concern and we haven't heard the last of that. There aren't any HSBC banks/Atms in Bali coz' the gov't wont give them a permit to operate. I also don't know if Jardines owns over 50% of the Astra Company or the shares. I'm sure the whole Company was not up for shareholding when it was originally listed.....only outstanding shares are generally traded on stock markets. To find more about PT Astra International tbk (An Indonesian Co. with a registered address in Jakarata) you would need to read its annual report to the stockholders...I'm not one. Starbucks is an American Co. listed on Nasdaq whose principal shareholder is Howard Shultz from Seattle.......it sells franchises.
