I successfully merged the posts, but then deleted the first post in the thread (which was a duplicate of the 2nd post) and the whole thread disappeared. Thinking about it after the event, this makes sense. Delete the first post, thread gone. I have asked admin if it's possible to restore a deleted thread. Waiting on a reply.
