At the time that Anna's Warung was No 1 there were only 14 reviews but all were 5 stars. My bad review knocked them down to 17th overnight. I checked because I thought they wouldn't print it. Obviously, a venue with so few reviews should not be judged alongside venues with several hundred reviews. The concept of checking with the Internet before I eat somewhere is completely alien to me. Markit, who said I had a smartphone ?....... and I DON'T have any grandchildren...... or children!

My question is,why when even a small group of peoplebsit down together and all place their order at the same time that everyone gets served at different times,man one time in Sanur 3 of us (adults)and my young son went to a small western owned place,placed our orders and im noy kidding here but my wife,my sister in law and my son were all finished before I even got served,why is it so difficult to serve everyone at the same time??

I think this is one of those eternal questions when in Bali..... along with the Secret of the Universe! I can only assume that it's due to the lack of suitable training for the reasonable demands of Westerners. At the same, time I think we need to try and understand that the Asian way may not be the same as our way. Asian races are more than happy to eat at any time of day or night and don't seem to give a stuff if their food is hot or cold. Personally, I hate eating luke-warm or cold food that was meant to be eaten when hot and consequently I rarely eat at "Warung Java"s and prefer the pasar malam where the food is cooked in front of me and served hot. Having said that...... if you go to a good western-run establishment... there is no excuse for such poor service. I had an interesting experience last year when, by chance, I came across a site called TripAdvisor which I had never heard of. I checked out the no. 1 restaurant in Sanur as I hang out around there mostly. I took my lady friend there promising a great meal...... but.... to be honest......it was c**p!!!!! I am not a fussy eater at all. How can a restaurant in Sanur run out of rice???? https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g297700-d3415860-r220401669-Warung_Anna-Sanur_Denpasar_Bali.html#REVIEWS To be fair to TripAdvisor they printed my comments and the place dropped from 1 to 17 overnight. How on earth can a dive like this be on the same website as a quality restaurant like Charming where the patrons are more likely to be connoisseurs of fine food and rarely give a score over 90%. So, if you open a new restaurant, serve some pretty good food...... give a few diners a free beer or entree or whatever and beg them to give you a good rap on TA to help you get popular in your new venture. If 10 people give you 5 stars.... you will instantly be No 1 on TripAdvisor. THEN the people will come. THIS is the new world! Sad but true. The Internet RULES!!!!

As you said on TripAdvisor No1 restaurants are not always the best. Its how they market it for instance Vincents in Candi Dasa give you a TripAdvisor card with your bill to try and get you to rate it. Its no 1 on Tripadvisor but in my opinion the food was well below average , but they know how to do their marketing As Markit pointed out before a place with a huge menu is generally not as fresh as a place with a small menu this appeared true for me everywhere I dined when in Bali. Also its not as easy as getting 10 great reviews and getting to No 1 as they have some sort of algorithm .However you can move up much higher you should look to get rid of the reviewers who have only 1 or posts plus the real complainers to get a better idea on TripAdvisor. I review every place I dine at.

Interesting jumping from No1 to No 17. Deserved as per your experience , if they are smart they will respond positively to you and lift their game. I personally check to see if venues respond to customers it's important that they care enough to do. As for Markit yes it's the same one, at times he does make comments like this but they are sometimes funny and he admits to being a smart arse. He has been known to be correct on occasions. He would normally respond to this like " what do you mean sometimes" but hopefully by me writing this he won't.( but he will anyway).
