Hey you guys!I like the looks of this forum, looks fun and cozy. ;) I hope I can contribute in the future. Anyways... I just quit my job, sold my home and my furniture and am now planing to go to Bali to live my dream and learn how to surf. My intention is to stay 7 months. Since I don't know anyone well on Bali I can only get a 60 day tourist visa for now. So here's my plan and plz correct me if I'm wrong. I will get the full ticket with the return I want seven months later. Then I will get a single ticket out of Bali on to Singapore (with airAsia Unless u can recommend me a cheaper airline). So that I have a ticket out of Bali before the 60 day visa comes to an end. After my first month or so on Bali I will go to a visa agent and ask him to extend my visa. The agent will then be able to extend my visa to a social buddy visa and this way I will get another 6 new months? And that's how I will be able to stay the seven full months with the least bit of hassle, and well all live happily ever after. I will then be able to skip the visa run to Singapore and I will have lost the money on that air ticket? Plz correct me if I'm wrong ;)Some more questions? Will this work and is it the best way to go?If yes. How much will the additional 6month visa cost me?Do I get 6 new months or will I only get 6months all together? If that's the case can I still get another last month doing a visa run so that I will be able to stay seven months all together? The two month visa I get from the Indonesian embassy is it valid two months from the day I enter Bali or does it start to run out from the day they put the stamp in my passport?Could I get in trouble if I don't have a plane ticket out of Bali for when my 60days are running out?Is it easy enough to get a 6month visa with the visa agent on Bali or am I better of getting another 30 days at a time, alternately going to Singapore every month?Thank u all in advance! Love /Ikky

Hi Ikky and, as I see it is your first post, welcome to the forum. To achieve your dream of being THE international surfing champion:icon_cool: I suggest the following...Get in touch with an agent in Bali now. He/she will be able, for a fee, to sponsor you for a Sosbud Visa and have it telexed (copy to you) to your Indonesian Embassy/Consul nearest where you reside in Sweden. The agent will detail the procedure.Once you have that visa in your passport you normally have 90 days to enter indonesia, otherwise it expires. On entering Indonesia you will have 60 days clear (you are correct the first day counts). In the last 14 days you need to see your agent who will have your visa extended another 30 days. This will be repeated up to a max of 180 days (6 months). You will thus be able to initially buy an airline ticket to Indonesia and a cheap return ticket (6 months later) to S'pore or KL or wherever you wish to go after the expiry of the first visa. When the visa expires after 6 months you will need to leave, on your initial cheap ticket to S'pore/KL or whatever was your choice, and return. You can then return to Indonesia on a visa on arrival (VOA) which costs US$25 at an Indonesia airport or seaport. If required this can also be extended for another total 30 days...then leave again. Alternately, if you are a slow surfer learner and need more time to become the champ....the agent could provide anther sosbud and repeat all over for a further 6 months.I use ....utiket.com: utiket.com: Search results Denpasar Bali to Jakarta to find the cheapest fares around Asia. Just fill in the blanks...I couldn't find the blank page link.edit BTW there are always many Swedish/Danish/Norwegians here in Bali. I believe it is a curriculum for Spa education...I'm not sure which nationality as the girls are all blonde and beautiful and the men handsome. Maybe you can search for their college and piggy back with how they manage their flights and visas.

Just as an aside to Davita's post. If you book a one-way ticket to Bali and then an outbound ticket to Singapore/KL, do not book it for exactly 180 days. Immigration will invariably short-change you a couple of days when they process your extensions. It seems they count the last day of your initial 60 days as the first day of the first 30 day extension.I now book my outbound ticket for 177 or 178 days after arrival.
davita
Matsaleh is absolutely correct. I was not intending to be precise i.e. 182 days is in fact 6 months but, as we who live here understand, there is a 'rubber' component to time and dates in Indonesia, it can be stretched. Actually, it appears elsewhere in Asia...be prepared!

Welcome to the forum, you're not going to be the first Swedes that sold everything and left his/her country and stay here, I've met some already :icon_e_smile:Davita are right, if you prefer to stay simultaneously here, just ask an agent to arrange the social visa for you. But if you also want to explore Singapore or Malaysia or Thailand also, you could use the opportunity to use the visa run to spent some days exploring those country. If you are not sure about the return ticket date just buy the one that you could reschedule. The fee to reschedule ticket is not that big and you could have a better sleep and spent less.

Ok firstly Ferdie, I don't think you were at the get together I organised (sorry I'm claiming it!) with No Idea earlier this year, but as I said to him, if you know any single female swedes under 40 can you set them up with me please,-single business owner, non smoker(maybe not appealing in Bali?), never had drugs(ditto last point), and looking for athe biggest incentive of all in making the move! :)Maybe I should start a thread on this guys? "Single Aussie Snag seeks Princess to settle in Bali with?" And everyone on here could come to the wedding?
davita
There you go Ikky...one post on this forum and you got a marriage proposal already.BTW I have a friend who is a wedding planner.....:eagerness:Good job Dunaden....but do you surf?
Dunaden
I try, I'm ok, thought I'd update my profile picture so people can see what I'm like this year(unlike a few on here:)....c'mon Markit, No Idea...your turn to do the same...ps it wasn't a proposal...more so an "advertisement" haha but who knows , I'm not getting any younger and finally ready to make some mini surfers!
davita
Proposal or advert....it's a good thing right...putting yourself out there! As you 'Strines aften say 'Gud on ye Blu!'OMG...... I've always wanted to say that.:frog:
Dunaden
I just had to google strine....and I'm assuming I'm not a village in Manchester?! :) yes got to keep trying! Feel free to PM me anyone who's fits the profile :) ....ie. not a lady boy....cuts you out No Idea :P
davita
You're kidding me...you are from the Sunshine Coast and you had to google 'strine. Did you just get off the boat?:cheerful:Strine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thanx ya :)First, Thank you all for all the love and for the warm welcome! :) Very usefull post davita. So here is how I understand what u say I should do:Get in touch with an agent in Bali now.He will sponsor my sosbud visa.He will have it telexed (copy to me) my Indonesian Embassy.Once I have the 60 days Visa I will have 90 days to enter. I will then re-issue this visa every month another 4 months.(altogether 6 months). After this six months I can still stay another month. This can be achieved by going on a visa run to Singha. And then getting a VOA (another 30 days) once I enter Bali the next day. 1. What agent shoul I use (Any links/recomendations plz)? 2. What will the Sosbud visa cost me (more or less)? When it comes to air tickets I was thinking to do something like this:Buy a round trip ticket from Scandinavia to Bali for 175 days for example (thnx matsaleh)Buy a single ticket for 55 days upon arival from Bali to Singapore, just to have a outbound ticket for show when my SosBud visa would expire (I might end up not using this one if all goes well).3. Because I need to have this outbound ticket since I cant show my "real" 6-month airticket upon arival since I do not have a visa for it right? Is this the "corect way" of thinking?4. Is this "the way to go" or would this be a good alternative:Just getting a VOA to beggin with, then Leaving for Singapore within 30 days and sorting a Sosbud visa over there instead? And if so, how would I renew that? 5. Finaly is this whole proces foolproof and are most visa agents to be trusted? ferdie thanx, and yes. thats an option, If I was rich I would travel around like crazy, need to go to china, japan, north thailand, nepal, peru, sri lanka and so on ;) And I am considering going around, but flying every month will end up cracking my budget. Thanx in advance! Love and LIght/Ikky

This can even be achieved by flying to S'pore or KL in the morning. Pick up duty free litre of booze and take the next flight back. Although KL is a little further, flights and airport taxes are often cheaper.1. What agent shoul I use (Any links/recomendations plz)? 2. What will the Sosbud visa cost me (more or less)?1.2. I use and recommend Bali Mode (balimode@hotmail.com) You can email and ask prices. I suggest shopping around. There are many agents but I suggest only select those recommended by forum members. You may wish to post this request separately and get PM results. Tickets I'm not so sure...maybe others. My logic....If you can get a round-trip cheaper than 2 x single and can change the return cheap...then I would do what you suggest. If a single from EU to Bali is OK then you can internet buy an out to S'pore/KL by checking this for cheap fares....utiket.com: utiket.com: Search results Denpasar Bali to Jakarta You can then buy the appropriate Bali-EU ticket when you finally decide to return. Generally, when you apply for the Sosbud the Embassy/Consul in your country will want to see the appropriate (out of Indonesia) ticket. If arriving VOA they just want to see you have something that indicates you will leave. Even if the dates don't match...have a story and a current credit card! 4. Finaly is this whole proces foolproof and are most visa agents to be trusted? 5. Welcome to Indonesia where nothing is foolproof. Due diligence and, as matsaleh said.... leave plenty of time.... and selection of agent will help.ferdie thanx, and yes. thats an option, If I was rich I would travel around like crazy, need to go to china, japan, north thailand, nepal, peru, sri lanka and so on ;) And I am considering going around, but flying every month will end up cracking my budget. No idea, Dunaden only written off lady boy, but not a boy, so prepare yourself for free flow beers :topsy_turvy::barbershop_quartet_Ikuru, you got solid advises from the members here already, my advise is prepare your own emergency fund for weird expenses that you never think of before (around 20% of your budget), Indonesia and Bali especially has its own way to makes you wonder what will comes next

with the 90 day option of when you commence using the visa, you still need to complete your 60 day stay between the issue and expiry dates as show on the visa? So far I have only been staying 42 or 49 days, so have had no problems. Next trip intend to stay 56 days so need to arrive close to issue date, have I got this correct?

However Imigrasi will count the first day as day 1 and you should leave by day 59. Imigrasi, like all other Indonesians, have a rubber component to their counting of time and dates.
