Do the Balinese like westerners and other Indonesians

1. Do the Balinese really like westerners or do they just smile and pretend? Do they have a deep down resentment? I think if I was Balinese I would be a bit annoyed that they had all the money ,the nice villas not to mention the yobbos that get drunk ,silly rude and abusive and others who tell them your ripping us off. 2. Do they like the other Indonesians who come and take jobs not to mention the rich from Jakarta who own a lot of hotels,villas, bars ,restaurants and tourist attractions.

If the balinese folk that I've met and socialised with are pretending to like me and are smiling through their resentment then they're doing a mighty fine job of it. :) There's grumpy ones of course, cranky ones and aloof ones just like us westerners. Even crazy ones and to some western sensibilities, aloof, lazy etc., etc., you get my drift. If I'm being fooled then I'm happy to play the fool but that doesn't mean that I'm unaware, or dwell on it for that matter. Just my thoughts of course.

My wife, and some of her family living in Bali, are Ambonese/Christian and are very popular. I've noticed this when my wife invites many of her Gym Balinese buddies to our villa for get-togethers. They all have fun...especially when I open the wine and offer the beer.:cupcake: However...I have brought the subject up vis-a-vis Javanese and found there isn't the same respect. In conversation with educated Balinese I concurred they would like to be independant of Indonesia but are practical and cautious enough to recognize....not going to happen. I've also heard, from other ethnic Indonesians, that Balinese are considered lazy.

Hahaha...Not good idea GD. Considering the remedies he's posted to fix my stomach-ache (which has gone)..... and then imagine how he'll cure those gay guys and gals!!! The mind boggles....but maybe he'll find an answer that has alluded humanity. I'm just not really interested as most of our best pals live under a rainbow.

I'm just trying to get a handle on you ozzie guys nuance of language...do you mean 'going South' like it's meant in the Northern hemisphere. I was with an Ozzie girl in Hong Kong when she asked me for a French Kiss.....I tried to comply to the best of my ability until she said...."Don't you get it you idjet....I'm from down-under" Geeeez!!!!. What south was referring to was South Bali there was no Aussie slang here

Seems like a thread is once again unravelling. Who needs to discuss geedee's original questions ? So I'll contribute to the off thread banter. I grew up in Wahroonga, next to Turrumurra, Pymble, Warrawee, S'nives and to be more specific, Isis street, which is just next to Pearces Cnr. Isis now means something completely different to what it now represents. Much like this thread really. The rain has arrived, what a relief.

Although I would like more opinions of this seemed like the best answer was 1.Yes 2 Not really. ANY MORE OPINIONS? Mats i am proud of you actually going off thread. North Ryde has changed a great deal Top Ryde centre huge now and a very large extension to the Macquarie centre Also a new busy train station at Macquarie has meant lots more units(apartments) a huge price hike lots of businesses there now and of course the Uni. Traffic a nightmare down Ryde Rd mornings and between 4pm - 7pm
