For one I do recall Gilbert a few years back stating that he was in his mid-thirties, and am scratching my head in wonder how he aged so fast. Really thought that a person had to be at least 55 y.o. to qualify for a retirement visa.
Also regret jumping the gun by posting w/o doing more research first. www. expat.or.id has an article on Retirement in Indonesia stating that household goods are duty-free for those retirees with an ITAS. As you say different people may realize different results.
Don't mean to berate, but to express exasperation when things digress so when an individual is trying to get some factual information. These threads do wander!
1. It was me that quoted verbatum what member Gilbert de Jong wrote.
"shipped on retirementvisa without any problems or inflated prices after the arrival of goods."
I took his word that he was being honest and was a direct ref. to himself.....if people lie, or create an image to achieve some effect, there is little I can do.
2. I copy/pasted the article from
Living in Indonesia - A Site for Expatriates in Indonesia in post #4...If you had to find that for yourself later you must have missed my post.
3. I also inferred that Shipping Co's are not so familiar with the law...they just ship-stuff. There are forum members, in past threads, that said door-to-door by Freight Forwarding was a better way to receive goods....and that's where I got my info.
4. In post#2 I never suggested there was any consideration of the Retirement Kitas as we were assured by our retirement agent (a retired Immigration senior officer himself). The customs supervisor accepted that...he simply decided that there was more in the boxes than had been declared. After finding he was wrong, in a typical face-saving huff he decided to charge us a handling fee. This was inappropriate but, faced with alternative storage fees while we fought his decision, we had to succumb to his wish.
I repeat.... nothing had to do with Kitas (retirement or otherwise). I wrote post #2 to send that as a warning to others.
5. I mentioned my friend who shipped a container from Hong Kong to Bali. He also had no problem with the Retirement Kitas and duty-free but there was some problem with his transhipment from Surubaya to Bali.
These were the facts and experience I thought you seeked in your OP.
I had nothing to do with diverting the thread. That was created by another member who constantly takes some psycho delight to impugn sarcastically, using personal insults, anyone that disagrees with him....and lets him get away with it.
I wont and will respond. If the thread gets ruined in the process, and it's my fault, I'll apologise. If proved another created the diversion then action should be taken by administrators.
I will not be constantly insulted or belittled by ignorance nor bullying....and neither should any other decent member of this forum. We are all aware of 'just joking' and 'emitons' and 'satire' etc are used to effect humor....but malicious and personally insulting words are not part of that give and take.
