Matsaleh kindly PM'd me to locate a store using her Google street maps. I thought it useful to link here (I'm sure Mats wont mind) for those finding their way around Bali....and a lot of fun to use.
https://www.instantstreetview.com/
I used it just now to (digitally) walk from Hard Rock to Beachwalk on Pantai Kuta. I saw many people on my travel. With clicks of a button, as I sat in airconditioned comfort and hardly broke into a sweat, I did my walk for today.
Tomorrow I'll (digitally) walk up/down Jl. Legian for exercise. I might even stop in Jaya Pub for a (digital) beer. If you see me please say hello...:cupcake:

WOW! Thanks for the link, Davita. Obviously, from the Google data base, but SOOOO fast to get from one place to another! I just took a drive along the beach, in Kuta, Lombok, and to test the system, keyed in my street address, 8 Bellevue Ave, Winchester, MA...and here I am, in my front yard, working on the flower bed (just when the Google truck was passing by, in the Spring of 2013)! Then, I start keying my address in Paris, and before I had finished (I typed with two fingers)…voila, my apartment building!:icon_e_surprised::icon_e_surprised::icon_e_surprised:
davita
Glad you like it tintin...me too...it's fun.
Btw I also just typed 8 Bellevue Ave. Winchester, MA. USA and we're at your front door. Is it cocktail time yet...we're thirsty :cold:.:&.:drunk:& :cheerful:.
tintin
I heard the knocking at the door, but I did not know it was you, so I pretended I wasn't home.:heart-borken::heart-borken:

With all that virtual excersise I can virtually see the weight dropping away from your avatar davita!
davita
I have a confession Steve...the avatar is not really my picture., I'm more ugly and tousled.
It's a picture I took of a guy that came out of his cave in Karangasem...he wanted to buy my motor bike and I wanted to sell that clunker. He was delighted when I told him my bike was an original 'Tenzing Sherpa' as he said he wanted it to climb mountains and volcanoes. He bought it and headed out to dem' darn' hills and never was seen again. I believe he must have achieved his objective to drive to the abyss as 3 volcanoes in Indonesia are already angry and spewing fire and smoke....... or maybe that's just the exhaust from that damn bike...:grumpy: I did say it was a piece de' junk.

That's OK tintin...I get that a lot.
Disappointed and cold and lonely in Massachusetts I used Google earth and tele-transported myself back to Jl. Semer, Kerobokan. I gave up the digital walk-about as no-one waved back nor chatted and so I physically walked to Cooks pub in my sandals. No-one was there till after 7pm for the darts comp so I continued to Plumbers Arms. I ordered the promotional bottle of Kilkenny's for Rp 25,00 and was told..."habis" WTF "No More?"
I digitally went all the way to Massachusetts...wasn't invited for a beer, came back to Bali and they've run out of cheap beer. "O.K. Bintang, glass dingin" I said and went to join the Ozzy crowd who were still settling bets from the Melbourne Cup and World Rugby wagers. One winning wag decided to buy everybody drinks so my day was not amiss. Soon my wife whats-me-up and wrote 'dinner'... so I pressed a button and my go-jeck took me home.
Couldn't sleep so made some hot choco from a sachet and googled for a cruise ship itinerary...I saw the whole ship and entertainment on my screen...who to hell needs to pay for a cruise...I changed from Choco to Baileys-on-the-rocks and digitally cruised down the Rhine in fine style...then went to bed.
This techno stuff is magic....I'm a believer...hallelujah.:cupcake:
But thanks tintin...next time I'll pre-warn with my Samsung Android smarter-than-me phone....better get the co-ordinates of that Samuel Adams shop...I'll be spending some time there.
Now please excuse me...my new digital E-Jakarta Post is waiting to be opened.

Google Earth street view does the same, and I prefer its mouse controls. You can move up the road using the scroll wheel on the mouse.

I have the free download Google Earth RonB...how do I get to street view?
Nydave
After you type in an address and click search the map will zoom into where you are looking for,if you look in the upper right corner of the map you will see some controls for going up and down and so on,in the middle of these controls there is a figure of a man, click on him and drag him to the location you want on the map and you will get a street view,on that view you can go north, south, east and west to get a view of the street from all angles, its a bit twitchy and sometimes wont give you exactly what you want but you will get real close, hope this helps,

Re Post #10
Thanks Nydave...it worked a treat. I can see my house and car here in Bali but the pic must be a year old as the place has changed. But a lot of fun and now have a new toy to play with.
Nydave
Your very welcome, yes its like a new toy,i understand that a lot of it is outdated,i see the google map cars going around regularly here in Ny ,they drive very slowly and have a sign thanking motorists for their patience while they work on updating their maps,i have no idea how often they update in Ri or other countries,
Some time ago I was playing around with it and found an island that is shared between Indonesia and the Philippines,i wasn`t aware that both countries shared an island until then,it was almost like being on the island for real, there was a wooden structure somewhat like an arch shape, with a sign overhead saying you are now entering Indonesia,i found it by accident, was playing around and there it was,so yes there are endless hours of enjoyment to be had on there,,have fun,

The date of the photography is displayed at the bottom. For Bali it used to be 2013, but around July it was updated with March 2015 photos.

If you can a fly a 747 you can easily do that

Thanks RonB...I saw my house pic was Feb 2015...and that would be about right looking at the construction around then.
geedee....Fortunately, to use google, one doesn't need a licence. To fly a 747 or a chipmunk you do....UK CAA, Hong Kong CAD and USA FAA took mine away because of age...the UK gov't also took away my driving licence. I still have a pleasure craft permit to drive a yacht in Canada/USA...but no boat...:grumpy:
I'm waiting for the day when I need a wheel chair...it doesn't need a licence so I'll fit a fecking rocket engine and fool 'em all... :icon_e_biggrin::icon_evil:

UK has changed but some of us were given driving licences till aged 70. Thereafter, to be permitted to drive requires a doctors certificate. I haven't returned to UK since 1991 so probably wouldn't qualify at all as Im now nearly 79. Canada gives me a 5 year licence but with a medical test every 2 years after 80.
In fact I haven't driven anything for about 5 years....but I'm thinking of getting a bike.

Why worry about a UK driving licence. Too many English there
Please drive your bike fully clothed as it would cause mayhem and horror crashes

Is it normal procedure for the Uk to take away a driving license because of age ?,or do they make people do some kind of test to see if they are still capable of driving without being a danger to others,I`m asking because here in Ny there are many drivers who really shouldn't still be driving,One example is my friends mother,I believe she is 86 yrs old,has a couple of medical conditions which involve medications which in my friends opinion have to have an effect on her reactions while driving, but the most obvious is that she is a really large lady and there is no way she can possibly turn to glimpse behind and such when trying to park or whatever,
On the other hand another friend who is only 47 yrs old and who is a truck driver ,had a hearth attack like 3 yrs ago, they took away his trucking license which makes sence but right now he is in danger of losing his regular license, seems he has to get written reports from some doctors which will be submitted to Dmv and from those reports they will deside if he can keep his license or not,I`m curious to know how it all works,in the two cases I mentioned it would seem like there are different rules ,

Davita get a NMax from Yamaha a real "man's" scooter, fully automatic. If you can turn your wrist (reverse drinking movement) then you can drive one.

The bike I originally thought of has pedals....but I'd love to be a real man so maybe I'll spring for one with a battery and electric motor. I'll still be able to go up/down Sanur beach and ring the bell to say "Heh! look at me...I'm the MAN."
