Klaatu I can heartily recommend this thread(https://balipod.com/forum/threads/combating-internet-trolls-in-bali.11358/) and particularly skip down to Matsaleh's grand advise on the use of the "ignore" function. It's wonderful --- the caravan passes and doesn't even hear the dogs yapping!

Easier to carry all family or load of groceries on automatic. Manual is better for control on steep hills or in traffic.

Sherm it may have been a while since you've tried the new (NMAX - Yamaha) automatics but mine will take the steepest hill and with ABS I can stop on the proverbial dime in traffic - actually my problem is being able to stop too quickly. The people following don't usually have ABS...

ABS is designed to stop skidding. Same principle used on cars and aeroplanes. If braking on a slippery surface they can actually extend the stopping distance but the advantage is that the stop can be better controlled....especially on a two-wheeled vehicle. If skidding not imminent the ABS system doesn't apply the brakes.

G'day Markit, I'm considering buying a scooter, possibly an nmax, in a couple of months so I'm wondering if you still think they're the bee's knees/ ducks guts etc. Any downside after riding one for a while? How's the fuel consumption? p.s. I like your smile and wave ethos.

Steve I'm still convinced it's the dog's wobblies but the fuel consumption seems, comparatively, a little on the high side if I put it next to my mates Honda Vario but it does have a few CC more and I'm using Pertamax when I can get it. In honestly the diff is between a 40k full tank and a 54k IDR. I would also advise get the ABS version at plus IDR 3 million its stops on a Rupiah. Oh, forgot the most important feature: the seat is great - I can sit it for 4/6 hours no massive problem but the mate with the Vario has to dismount every 2 hours or so or suffer terminal ass-freeze.

Yep, I remember that you've mentioned the seat comfort and it's one of the things that will help me make a decision and probably the ABS as well. Even though I plan on never having to use the ABS it is nice to know it's there. Riding in Oz on a modern 650 bike I once had to rely on the braking system and the ABS saved me from a high-side that would have been relatively catastrophic. Thanx for your input. Cheers.

Bike/scooter is the best way to get around in Bali, unless you like sitting in traffic jams. Yamaha NMAX have tiny wheels. Cant be fun on a unpaved or bumpy road. I was thinking about renting me a bike form deuscustoms.com or something. Only problem is that I like to have a surfboard rack too.

In my experience the NMax rides just fine on unpaved, potholed and bumpy roads.
