balinews Karang Bali Asli Tur president director Putu Winastra suggested that tourism business owners in Bali should not be concerned with the fast approaching ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), since many human resources in Bali had already been certified. “We need to protect ourselves, so that no outsiders will invade our territory. When it comes to tourism in Bali, we’re talking about Balinese tourism business owners. Balinese must be knowledgeable about Bali and must have foreign language skills,” Winastra told Tempo at his office in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday, December 4, 2015. The man, who started his travel agent business since 1999, is quite successful since he now owns three branch offices. Winastra said that he was interested in the travel agent business since it had always been promising from time to time. In this current digital era, Winastra’s business had to face competition from other travel agents including online ones. However, Winastra believes that online travel agents have more weaknesses compared to conventional ones. “When using online using online travel agents, everything is easy, efficient and fast. But when something goes wrong, we won’t be able to file a complaint because it’s a machine,” he explained.
