Apparently Singapore 'lifestyle group Massive Collection' will be opening a branch of Naughty Nuri's in S'pore... but with a typical twist: According to a report in the Straits Times "[I]The casual and sexy concept of Naughty Nuri's fits with the group's concept of bars and clubs[/I]".... "[I]the menu is still in the works but will be a mix of Western and Indonesian dishes[/I]"..... but (and here's the kicker) the dishes will be... and I quote "[I]more refined and sophisticated in terms of quality ingredients and plating of food[/I]" "[I]What sets us apart[/I]" form the other bbq joints in Singapore ... said 38 yr old Mr Poon, who will be visiting Bali soon to iron out the details "[I]are the meats and sauces which are very tasty[/I]" Dinner will cost between S$40 - $60 (Rp400,000 - Rp600,000) apparently it is a franchise with branches in Malaysia and Maccau. There just seems so much wrong with this. 1. Nuri's "casual and sexy concept " what's sexy about Nuris'? 3. They're going to mess with the menu "refined and sophisticated" - how can chomping on ribs refined and sophisticated 4. the sauces are 'very tasty'..... is that the best he could say? Not fingerlickin good, not ferkin off the planet... but in keeping with the "casual and sexy refined and sophisticated concept" the sauces are 'very tasty' 5. Where are they going to find a roadside shack in Singapore? I guess in some corporate boardroom the name 'Naughty Nuri's was all they wanted, since they're changing everything Or as a Singaporean friend said on FB "Apparently the Sg version is going to be more "refined and sophisticated", which totally goes against the philosophy of what Naughty Nuri's is all about. Why do Sg businesses/people always like to take stuff, strip it of all that is simple and authentic - ie what makes it appealing in the first place - and turn it into something pretentious??? It really annoys me!!? I recall a similar Singapore attempt to introduce Fish'n'Chip' shop in the form of Rasmusens (or some such franchise) I was told by the franchise that the concept - which resembled a twee Californian Disney mock-up of a tea house - all gingham & white paint) was of a 'family sit-down dining experience loved by everyone in the UK which has more than 50,000 fish & chip shops' - I just laughed in his face "you've never really been to a Chippie? Have you? Where's the fryer up front, where's the newspaper ?" .... "What do we need newspapers for?" he asked.... "To wrap the ferkin fish supper in, of course"... "What's a fish supper" .... at that point I gave up Oh... and don't mention the Koo De Ta

Translated from Singaporese, it seems that we can expect an inferior product at much higher prices. I can hardly wait to pay S$50 for my knock off ribs and S$30 for a watered down version of the original martini... Well done Poon.
