I know I've posted before about how I liked Siloam Hospital but recent events have contradicted that opinion.
My wife's chiropracter wanted her to have some x-rays taken so she went to Siloam this morning.
As she is Indonesian she was given a price of Rp 1,100,000 for the x-rays but, on showing her Kitas as she is no longer an RI citizen, she was told a Kitas holder price, for the same, would be Rp1,650,000. She was furious at this discrimination and walked out.
Co-incidentally, I went to Prima Medika yesterday for some physio-therapy and the price was reasonable.....so we went there this afternoon and my wife got the same required x-rays for Rp755,000 and was told that's the same price charged for someone with a KTP.
I asked if there was any price difference at Prima between a Kitas and a KTP holder and was advised only for a Doctor's consultation (KTP...Rp275,000 and Kitas...Rp400,000)...I have copied all their in-patient price lists.
I'm not bitching as hospitals can charge what they like.... but wish to advise all expats that Siloam practices discrimination in its pricing.

BIMC is far far worse......watch out for their pharmacy prices too....can get half price outside.
I detest this multi pricing with a passion amongst such professional institutions....especially if you are extremely sickmor injured and tough titties to you to be able to argue your case.
By the way...ent doc in there directed me to her private practice for half the price.

I have had that idea before Markit. Medical care here can be really hit and miss. Partly because it takes so long to find the right person to go to. Many doctors themselves don't know who to refer you to, unless they have some kind of connection to that person. So maybe an online directory of sorts, where you could see the specialization of the doctor, qualifications, opening hours etc.
One of the problems though if you allowed people to make feedback about the hospital or doctor, like people do with hotels, hospitals don't like it. And are happy to take anyone to court if they get any negative feedback online about them.

I wonder if a running list of "accredited" (by popular acclaim?) specialist doctors would be of value on this forum?
The contributors here all seem to be of a similar age and sex with probably similar medical issues (and causes?) therefore a sticky list of what we have experienced would be very useful in my humble o...
For instance the name and contact details of Siamsam's ENT doc (welcome back - thought you'd died and gone back to Thailand)

So if we kept the list positive and factual there shouldn't be a problem?
Personally I'm not interested in rubbishing any doctors or hospitals but love a referral list that was always available - on FB the likes and dislikes disappear very quickly.

We has a similar situation with our young son couple of years ago,he fell off his bike and landed on his face, his nose swelled up very big and very quickly so I thought perhaps he had broken it,took him to hospital and they insisted he was foreign and quoted foreigner prices,(Mom is Indonesian and I`m foreign),however the little guy looks very western, rather that argue and have him taken care of immediately we just paid, thankfully he only had bad brusing, but ever since if we have to take him to a hospital we actually bring his Ri passport with us,might sound like a strange use of a passport but it works good for us,

At Siloam, if you don't hold a KITAS, the price is Rp750,000 for a consultation with a doctor. Rp350,000 for KITAS holders.

Thanks matsaleh...you are making my point even better. It therefore appears they have 3 discriminatory prices...KTP price, Kitas/Kitap price and Non-Resident price.
BTW....for non-threatening medical problems Kimia Farma have GP doctors 'in the house' so to speak and they generally charge Rp50,000 for consultations leading to a prescription...I'm sure other pharmacies have similar.

davita Yes of course that case springs to mind, but also heard about a fairly recent case about a negative comment made on Facebook. A case where a foreigner had to pay a hefty out of court settlement to a well known hospital - and it is not something that made the news.
Markit
If it happened on FB and didn't make the news it probably didn't happen. FB has more crap in it than a bedpan on a dysentery ward.

I believe Spicy is referring to the case of 'Prita' who was jailed for defaming a hospital....
Indonesian court case spawns social movement - CNN.com
I believe she was finally exonerated and all the money people had donated was given to charity.......but what is interesting is that her lawyer is now awaiting trial for 'allegedly' bribing 3 judges in Medan.
Today, according to news, his bank accounts remain frozen by the KPK. He is now in detention and sick in a private hospital having treatment..... so cannot yet attend his hearing.
I hope it isn't the same hospital that Prita attended...:icon_evil:

Hi samsian, I'd much appreciate it if you could post here (or pm me) with details of the two ENT doctors that you referred to.
Or for that matter, if anyone else knows of others, thanks.

A friend recently had nasal surgery at Siloam. The Dr was Conchita da Silva. He is very happy with the outcome.

Yes, it is possible. It would depend on your visa type.

Seeing that BIMC has been mentioned in this thread, I think I should add my experience at this hospital. Transiting from Jayapura to Brisbane, I took violently ill at Denpasar airport and was admitted to BIMC Hospital. Medical staff at the airport assured me that it was a good hospital, owned and staffed by Australians. After treatment/diagnosis in Emergency, the doctor decided to admit me. But! an admin lady said that I would have to pay 7juta before admittance or they would transfer me to a cheaper hospital. My answer was that, at the airport, I had exchanged my idr for aud and I didn't have easy access to such a huge amount. So she checked with my friend back in Jayapura, for payment. Happily she replied in the affirmative, leaving me to experience the 5 star luxury of this hospital for 3 days. The doctors and nurses were very helpful and caring I have to say, though the only Aussies i saw were a couple of admin staff.:icon_wink:

Thanks Ron, visited Siloam today with ENT Dr Nancy … very competent

Totally agree Davita, I’ve had this exact procedure with a good ENT doctor in Thailand … but Siloam was 4 times the price.
So still keen to know if anyone is aware of any ENT doctors here in Bali that are working independently of hospitals
