balibule wroteIt's almost easier to enter on the free visa and then do a one day visa run to Singapore or Malaysia and get another 30 day free visa.
It will save you time (one day lost versus three days lost) and buying a cheap ticket to SIN or KL will not be that much more expensive than paying the first USD 35 visa on arrival, the USD 35 extension fee and the several taxis up-and-down the immigration office.
balibule has a very good point...it will all depend on the ticket price but with due diligence it is viable... especially if a bottle of duty-free is put into the economic mix.
I used to do this on my multi-entry Sosbud visa...out from Jakarta to KL in the morning and back in the afternoon. In those days KL was a cheaper deal than S'pore due airport taxes...maybe different now KL has a new terminal.
The nearest foreign country to Bali is Timor Leste and, since last week, Citilink have started a 3 x weekly service there...don't know ticket prices but might be worth paying attention vis balibule's idea.
