Hi All
Wanted to get some advice on what place would be best for a big initial shop when we first move to Bali- CarreFour or Lotte Mart?
From what I have seen online Lotte seems more like a sort of 'warehouse' style place where you are buying stables in bulk and CarreFour looks more like a general supermarket with other departments bolted on (such as electronics and clothing, etc...).
Please correct me if I am wrong, but just looking for some good suggestions.
Thanks

Thanks for the great advice.
Definitely going to head to local markets for fruit/ vegetables once we are settled as kids love it and saving a bit of money whilst supporting locals is always a good thing in my opinion.
Hadn't heard of Hardy's before so thanks for the suggestion.

I find both places silly expensive - believe it or not the Hardys in the boondocks (Karangasem, Singaraja, etc.) are considerably cheaper than both on food items and some goods.
Lotte is fine for food if you can't get to the above and for large ticket items like TVs/fridges/washing machines and so on. Get a Lotte membership number from some friend or hotel to get their wholesale price reductions.
CF is stupid expensive and I only go there for stuff I really can't find anywhere else but there stuff is pretty limited too - bread is good there.
If you can, food shop at the local markets around 7 - 9am for the cheapest, freshest and best food. The market ladies will get to know you and you will enjoy (IMHO) one of the nicest parts of living here which many expats never see or think is "below" them.
