What kind of idiot installs marmer benchtops in their kitchen??Me.I saw a rare looking green / black swirly marble benchtop in MM marble a while back and had it installed as kitchen benchtops - looked fantastic far nicer than the granite. Now looks shite.Lemon, hot water, chilli sauce, fruit juice all leave bright white stains on it.Does anyone know how to get rid of these stains? Can i just re-polish? Ive been back to the shop i bought it from and they said it cant really be fixed - so im baffled as to why they didnt advise me not to install there, but then i realise where I am.Does anyone know someone who does this kind of work? I was thinking one of those high speed polishing drills with the disk shaped woolen cover and some regular car type cut and polish but that may destroy it completely.

Maybe talk to the people who do the cleaning and polishing of the marble floors in a mall there. I don't know how you would find them, other than ask the mall maintenance people. There is a process called marble crystallization that the experts can do that supposedly alters the crystal structure of the marble, making it harder and more resistant. But in the long run, it is still marble, and you will end up with the bench top in the same condition as it is now. Marble stains too easily, and is too soft, but as you saw, it looks great. The best long term solution is replacing it with granite.

Hinakos I put marble into 2 kitchens now (and bathrooms) in one I used the local one called "Rosso" (as it is red). I can't say that I've had any problem with either one and I love their look to this day. No problem with color changes or softness at all. I did have one counter top get a milky strip when a new cleaner used an industrial cleaner on it - if I remember correctly SOS. Luckily she only took one swipe at it and realized what she had done -it's for ceramic floors. You will probably have to re-polish and ban usage of SOS?

There is a product made in the US and and sold at the large building supply store in Keroboken. It is in a red can, and the name of the store is something like Budaya Depot (sorry I can't be more precise as now in US). Any way I used it on my white marble floor with partial success. Worth a shot.
