A Lawyer told me that this was legal yesterday and it struck me as completely opposed to everything else I've read. I would basically be buying products from Bali and other parts of Indonesia and selling them online to Indonesian and Singaporean consumers.Does anyone think that lawyer was correct? Also, she has offered the option of a temporary work visa that lasts for 1 month and I can extend on a monthly basis. It still requires the sponsorship of a business. I know a friend who has this visa right now through the same laywer and is working (and advertising the work they are doing) quite openly. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks
Dunaden
I'm interested in this too....and a little confused...how much we're these various visas? And are you saying someone sponsors you through their business by getting you a kitas and then you go and start your own business on that kitas?

I have never heard of a temporary work visa. Do you know the visa code for it? You can do business on a business visa but can't work. Obviously that leaves a lot up to interpretation. Getting a work visa from one company, but working for another is not allowed.

Yeah I'm confused about it too - that's why I posted on here :)It doesn't sound like it's called a Kitas - it's a 1 month work visa and you have to be sponsored by a business that can give out a Kitas. Then any advertising that you do has to include the logo of the business you're being sponsored by. For all the people that come through Bali to do workshops and retreats and that sort of stuff. And as far as selling products go, that is covered by the business visa, so there would never be any company formed. Meaning no fees or locals required to be director and commissioner as well as make things complicated. And then you don't have to pay Indonesian taxes because you can't work on a business via, which is the part that sounds really dodgy to me. Can't imagine that the Indonesian government would be okay with this. Oh and I believe that any activities required to sell these items (taking them to the post office, packaging them, etc.) have to be carried out by a local.

Don't know a visa code for it - I will ask the lawyer.

As far as i know a the kitas & IMTA are owned by the company, are for 12 months only. They are paid for up front & no refund. Its sounds like you are talking about a Business visa which doesn't allow you to work. Things are not complicated if you have a dodgy agent just expensive. If you were only selling by internet & to oversea customers I would't worry about anything. Lots of people send gifts to friends.

easy...there is no such thing as a temporary workvisa.you can however do business on a business-visa (duh)...setting up agreements with suppliers etcetc is just that, I mean contracts with supplier who will send his/her produce to you company abroad. You selling these products straight to customers from within Indonesia, that would be illegal without setting up a business, and taking care of all the things that come with that. in short you are dealing with a dodgy lawyer

I don't believe what your lawyer saying. On a business visa you can not do this kind of business.

The ppl on here should be able to give you better advice with this extra data. Otherwise everyone here is pissing in the dark trying to hit the passport.:topsy_turvy:

Thanks for all the helpful responses - I will talk to my friend and see if they are willing to share whatever documents they have been given as I would hate to see them have problems. This lawyer spends time every day at the Immigration office and seems to have sorted out some interesting agreements with them. I don't view the lawyer as dodgy as she is used by some reputable businesses, the owners of which I know fairly well, though I do believe that this lawyer might have a bit of hubris with what she can pull off and could end up getting some people in trouble if someone decides that they're not cool with her pulling this stuff.

a lawyer going to an immigration-office EVERY DAY....sure she/he is a lawyer and not just a 'calo' ?

... This lawyer spends time every day ...
When you go to this lawyer's office what does it say on the big white signboard outside the office? It has to be there - by law.Do you see the actual lawyer's name followed by SH or MKn? Do you see the word PENGACARA or NOTARIS and the Ministry of Law licence number something like this perhaps: S.K. Menteri Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia RI ABC-123-XYZ 08-07-Tahun 2001 Tgl 28-Agu-2001A real lawyer will be far too busy to go to the immigration office. He will have clerks to do that kind of donkey work, just as gilbert de jong is telling you.

Apologies for my ignorance what is a Calo?So attached below is the letter with the stamp my friend got from immigration. Next to Keperluan what I've blacked out is the work activity my friend has been approved to do for 1 month. I believe that at the bottom is the lawyer's name followed by the Amd.Im.SH - or is that someone from the immigration office?I don't remember if the lawyer had a sign outside her office - if/when I go back I will find out. She did show me all the paperwork for the companies she incorporated and I know she incorporated my friend's company (I was asking about incorporating my own company), so I believe she is an actual lawyer. She was adamant about the fact that she doesn't use clerks for donkey work because she hasn't found one she trusts. She said the same thing about visa agents. She seems quite hands on with all her work and seems to work more closely with less clients. Which might explain how she has been able to sort this stuff out - perhaps the immigration guys would rather not mess with her few clients since there are dozens of other ones with less hands on lawyers that are much easier to go after. This letter is NOT A PERMIT - NOT A TEMPORARY VISA!!!!!This letter is exactly what it says it is - it's a SURAT KETERANGAN MELAPOR - a LETTER of REPORTING TO IMMIGRATION. That's all - nothing more. It confirms that someone has reported himself (personally - or through an INTERMEDIARY = CALO) that he is in Indonesia - as follows:LETTER OF REPORTNumber: xxxxxxxxxHave received report from:Name:Sex:Nationality:Place/Date of Birth:Address:Immigration Document: Passport Sponsor: PT the name of the company sponsoring himSponsor's address:Reason for issuing this letter: ???????????????????????? that will be carried out from 15 August 2013 to 15 September 2013.Period of validity: This letter of report is valid from the date of issue until 15 September 2013.Issued in Denpasaron 15 August 2013For and on behalf of the Head of the Monitoring and Immigration Action SectionAnak Agung Gede XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXDiploma of Immigration Studies, Bachelor of LawThis letter just says that your presence from 15 Aug to 15 Sep in Denpasar has been reported and noted. OK - go to the Immigration Office in Jalan Panjaitan - the address is shown on your letter - and ask them!By any chance, would you like to buy London Bridge? I could let you have it at a very reasonable ........................

Alex is correct...that is just a report letter.A work visa (IMTA) is not even issued by Immigrasi, it comes from the Dept. of Labour and Manpower. Also, a Business visa is a visit visa to allow foreigners to temporarily come to RI to attend meetings, make consultations, offer presentations and ultimately sell products or services.....sourced outside of Indonesia.

Alex this is the type of "visa" my friend is working on, not me - the reason why I made this post is because I was hesitant to do it myself (it was offered to me) because I had never heard of it before. I have been here for a while now and speak decent Indonesian, but didn't fully understand what the letter was saying. I wanted confirmation of my suspicion that this wasn't legitimate. So now the question is - since my friend has been reported to immigration and the fact that she'll be working - next to "the reason for issuing this letter" is listed the type of work my friend will be doing - has been noted by them, has the lawyer essentially bribed someone? And considering that the cost of this temporary "visa" is only 150 bucks per month, how high up could the person receiving the bribe possibly be? So then my concern for my friend is - what are the odds that someone higher up catches wind of this and then decides to show up and bust my friend?
spicyayam
What is the actual visa your friend has in their passport?
