Travelingrick01 wroteHello all, we have finally moved into our new house in Kerobokan and have a nice space to put in a vegetable and herb garden. When I lived in Hawaii I was a member of a self-sustainability group that shared garden knowledge, cutting and seeds, mostly online but we got together sometimes. Anyone know if there is a gardening group active here? We have some seeds from overseas but have not found a nursery or shop that sells vegetable starts or seeds here. Anyone know of such a nursery? We look forward to getting a healthy garden growing soon! Also, I'm trying to find irrigation tubing, I thought it would be common but can't find it anywhere. Thanks a bunch
Just read today's news of Hawaii's increasing rate of birth defects and the people's protest on GMO crop... (Sorry, Balipod doesn't allow me to post any link)
Unfortunately, we are seeing the same pesticides they are using there being sold in Bali - eg. Monsanto's Roundup - where rates/incidents like birth defects, etc. are less likely getting reported. I have tried highlighting the potential danger of Roundup to a local supermarket (Tiara in Denpasar) and a building material mega store (Depo Bangunan in Denpasar) that I have seen displaying the herbicide on their shelves, but my advice went unheeded (perhaps there were not enough consumer voices). Despite the UN publicly claiming their herbicides carcinogenics, understandably very few local farmers are aware of Monsanto, Syngenta, etc...and GMO's. I believe no local news picked up the story.
