For all you that didn't make it this year to the Ubud Jazz Festival (August 9-10) put it in bold letters at the very top of next year's "Things to Do" list. If you want to see what you missed: UBUD VILLAGE JAZZ FESTIVALOriginally I was asking here on the forum for "cheap ticket" information but I happily rescind that request: the tickets for 2 days were 550k IDR and for 1 day 360k IDR - sounds expensive when you look at it that way but there were 2 great advantages. 1) Kept out the riff-raff2) Paid for 2 nights of free wine from 7 till 10pm, and a damned good one at that (but can't remember the name so will post that later if brain damage allows). Plaga wine, found it. Even for those that don't like Jazz (that's me) it was a great party in the grounds of the Agung Rai Museum of Art (Arma Resort) with 3 stages going off alternately so if you didn't like one you could wander over to the next one (and get some free wine). Ubud is heaving at the moment with not a dry healer in sight. If your name is Ketut go to Ubud and you will immediately be followed by a score of middle aged women looking for enlightenment/love.Bali is at the moment bloody cold, or is it me?

kudos to you markit, a jazz festival with wine flowing is a good way to spend the day:icon_e_smile:maybe the wine will help you and your partner go "creative" resisting the cold night?:barbershop_quartet_

(Bali is at the moment bloody cold, or is it me?)It is cold and I love it.......sometime we need some cool weather.

Well I have not seen the thermometer go under 20 yet (maybe it has forgotten how), so COLD seems to be an overstatement. But, more than a sheet at night may be called for, and walking barefoot on ceramics may seem cool.

Where I am now the pool is 27C and the air temperature is just a bit over 26C. But here there's a strong wind so as soon as you are out of the pool you freeze until you get dry or go indoors. No sun at all - rain every other afternoon - all a bit grim. Bit of a hard winter!..... unless of course you try to talk to the folks back home who will tell you that 26C is hot summer's day!

Bali is a bit bloody cold for me at the moment (especially the ocean!) but my parents are visiting from Perth for the week and they are constantly breaking out in a sweat! We must be truly acclimatized! :cold:

The same snow also fell in the Philippines! Sounds just a teeny bit fake?http://www.british-filipino.co.uk/showthread.php?7541-Bizarre-Phenomenon-Snowfall-visits-tropical-Country-Philippines-July-24th-2013And here's a comment from a guy called Mick Mentawai about the flora:Obviously its a hoax, but for interest sake the palms in the footage are either Livistonia chienensis or trachycarpus fortunei palms that can survive through snow falls as native to high altitude areas of China or Japan and Tawain, they are found in gardens in Indonesia, but is also widely cultivated in gardens in cold climates, so most likely just footage from a cold climate. Now, if it could just happen here on 25 December morning, that would be something!

Each visit to Ubud, an activity I find amusing (to me at least) is a little game I call Let's Spot Elizabeth (Gilbert). Every time you spot one rules state you stop at nearest resto and order up a beer. One particularly thunder filled afternoon a duo walked into the bar sitting near my comfy lookout spot. Hmmm... two more beers. They sat very close to one another, gazing into each others eyes, and an occasional *smooch*. When I ordered the required Bintang, bar girl asked me about the Elizbians across from my couch. "why they do that?" I said "not my business, maybe in love? anyway I don't know I live in Amed". She nodded acceptance to my answer and returned to the bar front looking for more customers.Warm in Amed, mornings never cooler than 26 and high around 33 lots of wind.

Do you find it the case Sherm that in general less is expected of you Amedians?:couple_inlove: with the ubiquity of phone/cameras is it asking too much for photographic evidence in future. Hey Management we should start a photo section with phone pix from crazy ass tourists - some suggested motifsLooking for love in all the wrong places?Motorbiken?Eating hot stuff?

Yes of course and the majority of my brain-dead countrymen strive to live down to those expectations. No camera or phone that day. I'll remember next time. You want digital images or large format glossies suitable for framing?

Amedians i.e. those from Amed. Now Americans nobody expects anything of and most people are generally surprised when we can pat our asses with either hand.

Amedians i.e. those from Amed.
Yes now I understand. Looks like I've confirmed your suspicions. We can't really be blamed you know, with only one street most everyone passes by at least twice each day, most at breakneck speed. Watching back and forth for any length tends to rattle the brain. Plus being a small community most everyone knows or at least recognizes each other. The constant nodding 'hallo' only adds to the rattle factor.
